Nakul Stud expecting great boost

By: Our Correspondent   May 10 , 2013

The Nakul Stud Farm in Haryana which has expanded its scale of operations is hoping for an improved presence in the Indian racing scenario. The crops of new stallion Pinson and West Virginia are ready for viewing by prospective buyers. ``We hope to make a big splash as the yearlings look impressive and the upgrade in the pedigree should help boost our stud farm,`` said Pawan Bhatia, the promoter of the stud farm.

West Virginia is a grandson Storm Cat and as such an influence of speed and stamina. 11-year old West Virginia is by Tomorrow`s Dreams out of Wild And Wonderful. The dam is a winner of seven races and the second dam Pacara too had an identical winning record to her credit.

Unheralded and virtually unknown in its early years, the Gurgaon-based Nakul Stud Dairy & Agricultural Farm has steadily grown to occupy a prominent place in Indian racing. Nakul Stud is located on a fertile plot of land renowned for producing sound horses with good bone.
In 1999 the stud farm introduced the sensationally fast Meritocrat[USA] who unfortunately died early after having only 70 foals. The promise he displayed can be seen from the fact that he produced Grade 1 winner Man Of The Match, who annexed the Deccan Derby of 2006. Alas, Man Of The Match could never prove just how good he was, as he suffered a career-ending injury in the Indian Turf Invitation Cup, a race his trainer was adamant he would have won.

The same year, the stud launched Don Micheletto[GB], the first son of champion Machiavellian in the country, who steadily rose to become the leading stallion in India ranked by median earnings! (Register of Stallions in India, Vol. XIII, Page 219). This was a most gratifying achievement, one which came against fierce competition from champion stallions of leading stud farms. Amongst the Don`s many notable progeny are Swiss Don (Stayers Cup, Gr.1) and Sparks (Deccan Derby, Gr.1).

There are 26 yearlings for sale this year, with 25 of them foaled by West Virginia.
