Arrogant Approach lives up to expectations

  July 26 , 2014

Suleiman Attaollahi trained Arrogant Approach had credentials to beat a better lot of horses than the one he was taking on in the 1600 metres J B Mallaradhya Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Saturday`s races and as such, his easy win was on expected lines.
The four year old gelding, owned by former Karnataka cricket captain A V Jayaprakash, P S Ranganathan and T S Suresh justified the short odds placed on him with an easy win over Shaka Zulu who hasn`t won a race for 759 days.

Treasure Mountain went on an energy sapping mission in front and led the field into the straight before fading out of the scene. Maddox, Shaka Zulu, Aumento, Amazing Redd, Arrogant Approach, Atlas Power and Magnitude Star raced behind the runaway leader. Shaka Zulu showed up prominently inside the final 300 metres with Arrogant Approach making a strong run from behind. Arrogant Approach easily overhauled the front running second favourite inside the final furlong and sped away. Shaka Zulu stayed on to finish second ahead of Amazing Redd.

Amit Cady trained Kingston Town had let down badly last time and finished more than 12 lengths behind Alfons De Borja after recording a smashing win. As such, he was not considered capable of reversing the poor run and allowed to run at long odds. Schiavone was backed strongly but the price drift close to race time came as a bit of surprise. Kingston Town went on a start to finish mission and was untroubled by anyone. Kingston Town showed total reversal of form. Schiavone tried hard to catch up with the front runner but was found wanting. Last start winner Alerio was faraway third. The winner clocked a smart time of one minute 25.94 seconds.

The presence of Artic Attraction ensured a good price for Mickey Mouse in the 1600 metres Sans Craintes Stud Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Mickey Mouse had gone down narrowly last time out in adverse underfoot conditions more due to fitness issues and the inability of his jockey to ride him in restraint. Artic Attraction had recorded a runaway win last time out and was widely believed to be capable of a repeat performance. These two horses cornered all the betting in the market. Artic Attraction led the field from the start as is his wont but his abject surrender came as a surprise. Mickey Mouse raced keen and gave his jockey Rajesh Kumar immense problem in restraining him. However, the son of Ace showed his prowess in the straight when putting daylight between himself and the rest to win by a widening margin of over seven lengths. Stimulate was second ahead of Artic Attraction.

Narayan Gowda trained Mystical Shadow had three unplaced efforts to her credit but the volume of money she attracted in the betting ring in the 1200 metres Alekona Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, resulted in the odds on Anecdote doubling from the ante post quote. In the event, Anecdote proved overwhelmingly superior to the opposition winning by more than six lengths in the hands of apprentice jockey Yash Narredu. Mystical Shadow who was outpaced in the early part was left with no realistic chance of catching up with the eventual winner and finished a tame third behind Candice.

Neil Darashah trained Fatal Attraction was backed strongly to win the 1400 metres Squanderer Trophy, a race for maiden three year olds. The progeny of Epsom Derby winner Authorized had no problem in tackling the opposition with ease taking control of the race from the word `go`. Sagrada ran on to finish second ahead of Ad Astra who showed appreciable improvement over her previous effort.

The well backed Mantra shot into the lead with about 250 metres left in the race and staved off the strong challenge from Colour of Gold to win the 1200 metres Allied Forces Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Vigorous showed some spark while covering lot of ground in the straight to finish third.

Summer Sky was the firm favourite to win the 1100 metres Xisca Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class. The Jaguar came in for spirited support close to race time. These two horses gave no hope from the start. Lesser fancied Big Copper Penny bolted to the front and was not troubled by any of the runners. The Jaguar lost significant ground at the start but nevertheless managed to finish second best against a very poor lot of horses that contested the race.
