Vision of Romance too strong in Prithvi Million

By: Frankel   August 24 , 2014

A Dajee trained Vision of Romance proved too strong in the 1400 metres Prithvi Edifice Million, a rich terms race for three year olds, the feature event of Sunday`s races. Racing did not run too kindly for those who put their trust in favourites as a fair share of outsiders spoilt the day for them. Champion jockey Sandesh went blank for the second day running which is a rarity.

Vision of Romance had a good CV to boost his credentials having run with some top performers like Be Safe and Quasar. Vision of Romance had finished second to Joshua over a sprint, warming up rather too late, running out of ground in the end. Over a mile trip he encountered a horse of the caliber of Quasar which went against him. Now taking on horses which had run in modest company over seven furlongs which perhaps suits him the best, he only had to tackle the speedy Spider Man who had to carry his brilliance over an additional furlong. Zadora set the pace with Spider Man on her outside and Vision of Romance in handy third position. While taking the final bend, Spider Man leaned on to Vision of Romance inconveniencing the favourite who had to come round wide. Spider Man went ahead at the top of the straight but could not sustain his foray as Vision of Romance came up with a big run, fought for a while before sailing clear in the closing stages of the race. Moussaeif ran on from behind to take the third slot ahead of pace maker.

Fire Engine`s lat run over seven furlongs was suggestive of imminent success. However, three year old Top Commander who enjoyed hype was expected to make things difficult for everyone in the 2000 metres Amber Royal Plate. The race turned out to be an anti-climax with Fire Engine winning the race with brutal ease by a widening margin of eight lengths. After Belvedere led the field from the start and led the field into the straight, Top Commander and Fire Engine improved places to come into contention. Once Fire Engine got into his stride, the race ceased to be a contest.

The 1200 metres Potential Champion Trophy, a race for maiden three year olds, saw Khaleefa being backed to the exclusion of the rest though the sprint was bound to prove sharp for him. Another horse that is bred to stay long, Attractive was next in demand. It was lesser fancied Dramarama who made a splendid winning debut, thrashing the rivals with a blistering run from the top of the straight which had the field stranded. The progeny of Phoenix Tower simply blew away the opposition. Khaleefa just about held on to the second spot ahead of Square Moon.

Pesi Shroff trained Acclaimed who has been raced sparingly managed to win the 1600 metres Gamble For Love Trophy, a race for horses rated 80 and above, quite capably. Acclaimed chased pace setter Invictus into the straight before bouncing clear and then held off Spirit of Mercy who showed good resolve in the end. One Wish just about edged out Falcon to claim the third place.

Favourite Tammy O was driven out to win by apprentice jockey Yash Narredu in a tight finish in the Nana Raghunath Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Antarctica Zone who led from the start held the initiative till the final moments of the race but Tammy O who had the benefit of a race run got stronger close home and managed to prevail by a neck. The lower division of the race looked like a minefield though the betting trend indicated that Mateus Rose would win it easy. Ceasarina who had all the credentials was ignored in the betting ring as the intentions of the connections were not clear as jockey I Pasha was declared to ride. In the event, Mateus Rose was a lost cause well before the runners took the homestretch. In a scenario which threw several possible winners in the final furlong, it was Ceasarina who covered plenty of ground in the straight to win at the expense of Reach The Stars, Glorious Regime and Fabrizio.

Earlier in the day, Pasha was astride Pesi Shroff`s Knight of Ke which won against the run of expectations in the 1200 metres Ronnin Plate, a race for horses rated 60 to 86. Knight of Ke raced aggressively in front and skipped away in the straight to go beyond the reach of favourite Ultrasonic. Emperor of France who raced up in front disappeared without a trace when the race came on the boil.

The day`s opener, the 1400 metres Classic Talk Plate, for horses in the lowest category was won by rank outsider Mohegun Sun who just about lasted out to win from late flashing favourite Lhotse. Dhiskyaon had the lead going into the final furlong but weakened in the face of a strong challenge from the eventual winner.
