Fink maintains his amazing winning streak

By: Stay Thirsty   August 29 , 2014

Michael Eshwer trained Fink maintained his amazing winning streak with effortless ease in the 1600 metres Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Memorial Million, a rich terms race for three year olds, the feature event of Friday`s race. The Manjri Stud Farm bred Fink did his sire Phoenix Tower a great deal of advertisement with this seventh consecutive win and looks set to extend it when he runs in the Mysore 2000 Guineas.

Fink was conceding weight to all his adversaries despite which he was installed the firm favourite to win. The big races at Mysore are always won by raiders from Bangalore but despite this trend, Fink`s reputation was so big that he was backed confidently. Del Russo who had recorded an impressive win in his maiden run at Bangalore was thrown at the deep end straightaway despite which the aura about him resulted in him becoming the firm second favourite.

Rising Romeo moved swiftly from the outside draw to take over the running followed by Del Santo, Rising Rani, Country`s Nobility, Fink and the rest, with Booker Jones in the penultimate position. Jockey Srinath who is inching closer to achieving a personal landmark of riding 1000 winners, kept Fink wide, out of any likely traffic snarl in the event of rapidly falling back horses running onto him. Fink came about five horses wide and in a trice covered the leeway on the front runners and went storming clear. Srinath eased up Fink well before the winning post which served to flatter the performance of Booker Jones as the official verdict indicates that Fink beat him one length. The superiority of Fink was something that cannot be quantified by the verdict. Super String headed Del Santo home. Make a note of Del Santo who appears ready to shed his maiden status.

The local horses held sway over Bangalore counterparts as Eshwer`s another ward Duma won the day`s other highlight, the Gr 3 H H Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, a terms race for four year olds and over. Ridgeway was the favourite but the six year old has been pretty inconsistent and as such, his below par performance was something that was not entirely unexpected. Winston attempted to win from the start but found it hard to keep his foray in front beyond the final furlong. He was first pressed by Bold Police who however flattened out. Duma then came into strong contention along with Keturah and these two runners fought all the way in the final furlong before the former, under the forceful riding of Srinath, skipped away in the end. Winston stayed on to finish third. Ridgeway disappointed by finishing a dismal last.

Neil Darashah trained Hector justified the short price quoted on him by effortlessly winning the 1400 metres Jog Falls Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Interactive attempted start to finish tactics but inside the final furlong, Hector joined alongside and steadily gained ascendancy and won with a measure of comfort. Thrillseeker was third.

The well backed Secret Plan thrashed the opposition in the 1200 metres K Thammanna Gowda Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Secret Plan showed up in front at the top of the straight and sped away from the field in a trice to leave the field stranded. Miss International ran on from behind to finish second ahead of Precept.

Lokanath` Noble Reward looked good in the 1600 metres Yelahanka Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65 and he duly obliged. Noble Reward had the measure of the rest with a furlong left in the race and held off the belated challenge of Deep Blue Sea whose finishing effort only induced artificial excitement into the race. Cool Approach had a good forward effort while leading in front and staying on to finish third.

Manta Ray was the medium of a quiet gamble in the 1400 metres Lavasa Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Manta Ray and Motivation pulled away from the rest with 200 metres left in the race and fought out the issue, with the former proving better in the end. Seven of Hearts who lost ground at the start, rapidly improved places and led till displaced by the duo who were involved in the finish.

Interestingly, Brownie`s efforts have been either finishing off board or coming up with winning effort going by his last four essays. Backed strongly to win the 1600 metres Squanderer Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45, Brownie had no problem in sailing past the front running Beautiful Life and My Law to record an easy win over late finishing Starstruck.

In the day`s opener, favourite Born For Passion met with no resistance from any of the contestants and won the 1100 metres Kumaradhara Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category in overwhelming fashion. There was a tight finish for minor places with Catwalk Queen nosing out Queen`s Cruise for the slots behind.
