Snow Bird brooks no opposition in feature

By: Tippu Sultan   October 13 , 2014

Satheesh trained Snow Bird recorded an encore albeit over a distance considered too sharp for him in brilliant fashion in the 1600 metres A P Race Horse Owners` Association Trophy, a Category I race, the feature event of races held at Malakpet on Monday. Favourite Super Duper had no answer when Snow Bird challenged him in the final furlong with a powerful run.

Tejaswini, as is her wont, set a fast pace in front, enjoyed a break of over five lengths. Super Duper, Ocean Side, Snow Bird, Qinhuangdao and Vijay Keerti raced behind. Inside the final two furlongs, Super Duper relieved Tejaswini from the leader`s position and tried to assert his supremacy. However, his foray in front was short lived as Snow Bird came up with striking acceleration in the final furlong and without much fuss, collared the front runner and went away for an effortless win. Qinhuangdao displaced long time leader Tejaswini from third position.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Vijay Viraaj won the 1100 metres P Anthony Memorial Plate, a Category II race quite easily from favourite Dance To Destiny. Pradeep Chouhan showed lot of urgency in pushing Vijay Viraaj to take over the running from Roma Royal inside the final two furlongs. The lesser fancied runner bounced clear and opened up a winning lead as favourite Dance To Destiny who came home with a big rush fell short by a shade less than a length at the finish. C Eleven ran on from behind to finish third.

S John drove out My Star to an easy win over favourite Winjoy in the 1400 metres Scintillating Plate, a Category II race. Winjoy could not sustain his foray in front and gave up too easily when My star threw a strong challenge. My Star then swept away to win by a widening margin of three lengths over the faovurite. Jaden Gil showed some spark when finishing third.

Favourite Green Olive shot ahead inside the final furlong and held off the late challenge of Symbol of Glory to win the 1100 metres Loyal Prince Plate (Div I), a Category III race. Regal Groom had a good forward run when finishing third. Symbol of Choice won the lower division of the race from Angelina. In doing so, Symbol of Choice drifted out of a straight course and took Angelina along to the outer rail causing the latter to change course. Though Symbol of Choice won capably, the resultant objection by the runner up against the winner for interference was upheld. Angelina thus got the race to provide jockey Aravind Joshi who prefers to be a work jockey his first winner of the season. There was a mishap at the jump as jockey Anil came a cropper on Kohinoor Grace.

Donald Netto trained Big Mac got strong inside the final 200 metres and won the 1400 metres Smt C Mohana Kumari Satyanarayana Memorial Cup, a Category III race from Glorious View and strongly finishing Maid For Love. Glorious View led well into the straight and under pressure cut an erratic course. In the final furlong, he weakened with Big Mac getting stronger.

Greek Star recorded his third win in four starts when he got the better of front running Rio Rojo well into the straight before spurting away to claim the 1600 metres S Rangarajan Memorial Cup, a race for three year olds and upwards. Santa Monica ran on to finish third. The well performed horse of the last season; Laguna Beach was in distress all through the race and stopped galloping in the straight.

Vijay`s Victory brought off a big upset in the 1600 metres Tick Tock Plate, a Category III race. Vijay`s Victory went on a start to finish mission and kept on expanding in the lead in the straight so much so that when jockey Ravinder Singh looked back to see where the rest far, he saw none nearby. The jockey could then relax and celebrate a surprise win. Light Blue Sky was second ahead of favourite Amazing Power.
