Accuracy dominates Van Ingen Trophy

By: Stay Thirsty   October 23 , 2014

Rajesh Narredu trained Accuracy dominated the 1400 metres Van Ingen Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Thursday`s races. Accuracy benefitted from the forward run that he had and had the race firmly in control with a start to finish bid and was not troubled by any of the contestants.

Accuracy was the strong favourite ahead of Cool Approach. There was some support for Maddox who hasn`t done anything noteworthy for a couple of years. Saddam Hussain took Accuracy to the front from the word `go` followed by Native Indian and Cool Approach. The jockey could see no possible threat as he peeped over his shoulders in the final furlong if any other horse was within striking reach and finding none he could ease the horse. Cool Approach ran on from behind to edge past Native Indian for the runner up berth.

The 1600 metres Margrove Estate Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65 saw betting being confined to the duo of Shrewd Master and Son of Stars who was bidding for a hat-trick. But both these runners disappointed as Cinch won the race drawing away at lucrative odds showing dramatic improvement over her previous effort where she had finished ninth out of ten runners. Shrewd Master lost all chances at the gate while Son of Stars weakened after leading deep into the straight. Cinch who raced in a handy position got stronger in the final stages of the race to justify the significant support in the betting ring to win a race after 398 days.

Samar Singh led in a winner after a longish gap as Anmol Hira who was backed spiritedly responded well in the final furlong to go storming clear and win the 1100 metres Hotel R R R Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Interactive ran on from behind to finish second ahead of Raaga. Favourite Ordered Steps had to be driven out vigorously with the aid of the whip by apprentice jockey Ramu to retain the initiative till the post in the lower division of the race. Sunday Cruz put immense pressure on the front runner and looked like collaring the favourite but in the end, he proved vulnerable as Aero Star made a late bid and nosed him out from the second berth.

Lesser fancied Miss International came home with a big run on the wide outside to measure favourite Time Flies in the 1200 metres Nyveli Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Time Flies came into strong prominence in the final furlong but was sorted out by the finishing burst of Miss International who had been hitting the board consistently this season after a good winter season. Precept came in for big support to repeat in the lower division of the race but the confidence seemed to be misplaced as she found the opposition too stiff to handle. Supreme was in receipt of good money by those in the know and the six year old mare did not disappoint as she swamped the field by a widening margin of eight lengths. Carisa was second ahead of Born For Passion.

Jockey Vivek`s poor quality ride resulted in a possible winning chance being lost on Fashion Flame in the 1100 metres Pratapgad Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Fashion Flame had run second over seven furlongs last time out and it was imperative that over the sharp trip of five and half furlongs, the jockey had to be extra sharp to get a good jump and get a forward position. Vivek was lacking on this count as Fashion Flame ran into wall of horses within the first furlong and had to drop back to the rear position. In the straight too, the jockey failed to get an opening and had to switch the five year old mare to the wide outside. By the time the favourite got a clear run, Samajdaar had shot off from the pack and had opened up a winning lead. Fashion Flame was second but could have been the winner with better assistance and possibly a bit of luck.

Somerset Rose got into rhythm inside the final 100 metres and managed to get the better of Flirting King in the closing strides of the 1200 metres Mulki Plate, a race for horses rated 0 to 25 to win the day`s opener at nourishing odds.
