Emperor Cruise swamps opposition

By: Stay Thirsty   October 24 , 2014

Sharat Kumar trained Emperor Cruise swamped the opposition in the 1200 metres Nergis Darashah Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Friday`s races. Emperor Cruise had let down huge expectations last time out losing to a local horse but this time out, he ran as if he had a fresh pair of wings as he left the field stranded in the final furlong.

Emperor Cruise had won a juvenile million at Bangalore during the winter season and thereafter had twice finished on board without showing any progress from the promise that he had given. Perhaps the right money was on this time as the three year old gelding received one sided support. Jockey D K Ashish had Emperor Cruise dart into a favourable position from the wide outside draw but in doing so chopped off whatever chances that Ice Cutter had by bumping him soon after jump out. Sweet Secret led the field into the straight with Emperor Cruise cruising in third position. And when the jockey was asked for an effort, there was an electric response with the horse picking up speed with great ease and speeding away for an effort less win by a widening margin of six lengths over Amazing Desire and long time leader Sweet Secret. Ice Cutter never recovered from the interference early on in the race and ran timidly thereafter.

Young Gallant came in for inspired support in the 1200 metres Esquire Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45 displacing Amazon Bay from that position. Smart Mistral led the field from the start with Young Gallant in a handy position while Amazon Bay lost considerable ground at the start and was not inclined to raise a fluent gallop. Young Gallant steadily measured the front runner in the straight and got the better of Smart Mistral but had to survive a scare in the end as Brown Panther flew home only to miss the berth by a neck. Smart Mistral held off Amazon Bay for the third slot. The well backed Smile Stone was seen in serious business in the lower division of the race and had no problem in storming clear in the final furlong to win with ease from favourite Arthurian. Jazzbythebay ran exactly according to the odds, being never in the hunt.

Satish Narredu trained Wind And Flight justified the short priced quoted on him by cantering home in the 1200 metres Justice P Medapa Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Wind And Flight led the field from the start and kept on expanding the lead in the straight to win easily from Fioritta and Thejaguar.

The odds on last start winner Glorious Light drifted out with spirited support coming for Charming Night in the 1400 metres Nandi Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. In the event, Glorious Light proved overwhelmingly superior to the opposition by surging ahead inside the final two furlongs and winning the race as she pleased. Delta Delight held off Charming Night for the runner up berth. Gaupo came in for exclusive support in the lower division of the race and won quite easily from late rallying Queens Colour.

Trainer P C Tejaswi had a treble for the day as apart from Gaupo and Young Gallant, he led in his third winner of the day through Albatross who got the measure of front running Sancy close home in the 1200 metres Chamundi Hills Trophy, a race for maiden three year olds. Sancy reportedly burst her blood vessels.

The well supported Beautiful Life improved places along the rails and then shot ahead inside the final 100 metres to win the 1400 metres Lakshadweep Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class in a three horse finish. Favourite Musical Treasure came home with a big run only to find Beautiful Life reach the safety of the winning post. Honourable Empress was not far behind.
