Invincible Prince carries too much class

  November 21 , 2014

Padmanabhan trained Invincible Prince carried too much class for the opposition in the 1200 metres Krishnaraja Trophy, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of Friday`s races. The four year old gelding had the opposition stranded when he swept clear inside the final two furlongs and won pulling up in the hands of jockey John who booted home a treble.

Invincible Prince was available at lucrative odds as there was lot of thrust on Emperor Cruise to make a mark in the highest class. The rest were all at big odds. John had Invincible Prince race a handy third as Will Star set a fast pace and led into the straight. Invincible Prince who came through with a ground saving run along the rails showed tactical brilliance as he shot through the gap that emerged on the outside of the front runner and quickly accelerated to leave the field stranded. Invincible Prince was hailed a winner long way from home. Emperor Cruise came from a way off the pace with a flourishing run but could only hope for the runner up berth. Last start surpriser Irish Song ran on to finish third while Apparition was a poor fourth.

M P Mahaesh trained Havelock Prince was the most impressive winner of the day though he won in the dying moments of the 1600 metres Bellary Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Havelock Prince showed out in the paddock parade and advertised his readiness to strike though he was set to concede weight to some good type of horses. The well bred Anarosa who broke into a long lead in the straight shaped to win with Havelock Prince having to cover considerable leeway. However, the progeny of Phoenix Tower showed striking acceleration despite the top weight and managed to overhaul the front runner in the closing strides of the race to provide John his third winner of the day. Havelock Prince has shown good improvement and should progress on the handicap scale while Anarosa is due for an early success. The rest of the runners made no show. The winner clocked a smart time of one minute 38.2 seconds.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Castle Stuart looked like a ready winner in the 1400 metres Kabini Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above. The drift in odds on Evraz, the only realistic threat and the firming up of support for Castle Stuart were indicative of what was to unfold. John had Castle Stuart chase the speedy Accuracy into the homestretch before setting alight the favourite who readily responded and stormed clear. Click made a futile bid to catch up with the front runner. Evraz ran tamely to finish third.

Promising jockey Yash Narredu blotted his copybook when he took a longtime to wake up from his slumber on favourite Authentic in the 2000 metres Adichunchanagiri Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Authentic was the on money favourite to win. Regal Boast who had run behind Deccan Derby winner Spreadeagle in his last essay was ignored in the betting ring as jockey Asghar was declared to ride. Asghar had Regal Boast in front and with none of the other runners disturbing his rhythm, the long shot got a useful lead which expanded into a winning lead by the time the others woke up approaching the final bend. Yash left himself too much leeway to cover on Regal Boast and Authentic ended up a disappointing second. It was a case of rank bad misjudgment of pace by Yash who may take time to get used to the qualities required for riding a long distance race. Deep Blue Storm was far away third.

Diamond Quest who had two placed efforts was made the firm favourite to win the 1200 metres Beloved Prince Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45 but the four year old was flat footed when long shot Arziki came up with a sustained run in the final furlong to settle the issue. Diamond Quest was a well beaten second ahead of Feet On Fire. Seven of Hearts who had played hide and seek in his previous efforts, raced in right earnest in about the fourth position before surging clear in the straight to win by a widening margin of six lengths over Big Copper Penny and Extra Spark in the lower division of the Beloved Prince Plate

Favourite Aqua Aria slipped into the lead with about 300 metres left in the race and then kicked clear to win the Silicon Valley Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 0 to 25. Tanganyika showed good improvement while finishing second. Byronic bolted without the jockey in front of the Grand Stand and was withdrawn from the fray. Trak On Fire who lethargic at the start finished third. Lesser fancied Musical Signature got into her rhythm in the final furlong and stretched away from favourite Danube to record a facile win in the lower division of the race.
