Obelinna Princess toys with opposition

By: Stay Thirsty   January 29 , 2015

Rakesh trained Obelinna Princess who had the experience of running with vastly superior horses at Bangalore, proved too good for the field in the 2000 metres M Govindappa Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of the day. Obelinna Princess took command of the race from the start and did not relinquish her lead at any stage of the race.

Obelinna Princess who runs freely in front was sorted out by classier horses when she ran outside the comfort zone of her centre. Now taking on a modest lot of horses, the four year old daughter of Kingda Ka went to the post as the shortest priced horse of the day. Ryan Marshall had her dictating the pace from the start and won without having to work hard. Spiritual Blue showed some fighting qualities when finishing a creditable second while the rest of the runners were far behind.

Srinivas Babu trained Majestic Queen just about lasted out to win the Sangam Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Majestic Queen led from the start but her inability to keep a straight very nearly undid her chance as favourite Protector of Paris slipped in along the rails and came up with a menacing effort. Apprentice jockey Shiva Kumar managed to gather her and pushed her to stave off the late rush of Protector of Paris. Capitano was third while Bourbon Street continued to disappoint. C V G K Kishore trained Divine Love took over the running on turning for home and drew away from the opposition to win the lower division of the race in fine fashion. Bold Nature as is her wont came up with a late flourish but this time the front runner had gone too far away for the six year old mare to make an impact.

In a cluster finish, Santosh Rao trained Golden Steps just about held off the strong finish of Indian to claim the Formal Invitation Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Inside the final furlong, it looked like anybody`s race as four horses were in a line. Napolean Dynamite and Natural Nine occupied the next two slots on the frame in close order. So Good To See You engaged Delta Delight in a stiff battle for supremacy before getting stronger close home to win the lower division of the race. Chandini made a late rally to finish third.

Despite a clumsy effort on the part of Santosh Kumar, Dare The Don made good the lead established on turning for home and reached the safety of the winning post before favourite Cosmic Touch could overhaul him in the 1200 metres Mysore Zoo Plate, a race for maiden three year olds. The winner managed to prevail by a neck.

Rakesh trained Gayle`s Storm easily won the 1600 metres Gerusoppa Plate, a race for hoses in the lowest category. Gayle`s Storm shot ahead inside the final furlong and had no problem in steering clear of Tandav to record a comprehensive win. Rising Affair was a well beaten third.
After traveling a handy third into the straight, Beautiful Dream steadily gained ascendancy and was hailed a winner well before final furlong in the 1400 metres Ajantha Plate, another lowest category race. Iridium rallied well to get the second spot ahead of Zamindar.
