Ungoogleable has it easy in Police Cup

  May 23 , 2015

Gregory Sandhu trained Ungoogleable had it easy in the 1200 metres Karnataka Police Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, which featured the races held on Saturday. There was a semblance of order after the mayhem of Friday, with fancied horses most races of the day. The underfoot conditions too had improved significantly.

Little Love had time and again let down his supporters so much so that punters were scared to back him with any degree of confidence. This resulted in the price drifting out alarmingly in the betting ring. The one to attract significant betting was Ungoogleable who looked ready to strike going by the looks in the paddock. Jockey Imran Chisty bolted to the front on Ungoogleable and the fancied runner had the race sewn up long way from home. Vigorous improved places in the straight from a hopeless position and finished second ahead of long shot Catch The Eye.

Angel Dust was one of those hot maidens running in the 1400 metres Southern Empire Trophy (Div I), a race for maiden three year olds. The daughter of Win Legend had finished behind Authoritarian and ahead of Eternal Flame. The horses mentioned had moved up tremendously in the scale and Angel Dust, running in a race for non winners thus should have gone to the post at cramped odds. However, the significant support for first timer Saladin who was blazing the track resulted in the odds of Angel Dust to be at a lucrative 17/10 in the ring. Suraj Narredu took Angel Dust on a start to finish mission and the favourite did not come under pressure at any stage of the race when finishing well clear of late rallying Southern Surprise. Saladin, who chased Angel Dust into the straight, was under pressure to quicken and eventually finished fourth. The official announcement said that the horse had bled. The lower division of the race went the way of Ganapathy`s Light of Magic who was backed as if her defeat was out of question. The daughter of Tagula had run three listless runs to her credit but the fact that she her body weight showed 25 kgs less than her previous effort itself indicated that she was fit as a fiddle. Jockey Sandesh bolted with Light of Magic and the filly was far so far ahead of the rest in the straight and the others could only hope to chase her shadow. Amazing Charm finished on from behind taking the third slot ahead of Blazing Touch.

Prasanna Kumar trained Colossal Moments was backed to the exclusion of rest in the 1100 metres Prince Khartoum Trophy (Div I), a race for maiden three year olds. Colossal Moments produced a winning run in the final furlong, easily getting the measure of Picture Perfect. One Big Gang managed to snatch the runner up berth from the long time leader in the closing strides of the race. The lower division of the race was won by favourite Multi App who made a successful start to finish dash in the lower division of the race, keeping Dignified at bay. Wise Guy ran on to finish third.

Inayathullah trained Miracles of Life was angled out in the final furlong to get a clear run and the progeny of Mathematician found wings thereafter to down favourite Sakchi who had shaped to win the 1200 metres Astounding Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Temujin was third. The lower division of the race saw a thriller with favourite Strengthofwonder just about nosing out Better Than Ever and the well backed Zulfiqar to land the spoils. Jockey Imran Khan made free use of the whip to keep Strengthofwonder going. In the closing stages of the race, three horses were in line and at the finish; the proverbial whisker separated the first three finishers. Top-weighted Pacific Blue had no problem in winning Division III of the race with a start to finish mission with Renee making a futile bid to catch up.

Puttanna trained Jayem`s Spirit which shook off favourite Luc Divine in the straight, established a useful lead going into the final furlong which helped the long shot to survive as All That`s Nice made a late dash but the front runner escaped to victory by a whisker. Midtown Delight too finished on strongly being a noteworthy third.
