Admiralty keeps reputation intact

  May 24 , 2015

Pesi Shroff trained Admiralty who is being touted as the best three year old in the country, did no harm to his reputation when recording his third straight win in the Gr 2 Karnataka Juvenile Million, a rich terms race for three year olds, the feature event of a long card of 10 events that were gone through on Sunday.

The Juvenile Million has always been a pointer for summer classics. The winner of this race has gone on to win multiple classics. The last year`s winner of this race was Be Safe. As such, the best three year olds who are expected to have a say in the classics during the season generally line up for the race. With the possible exception of Authoritarian, the other top three year olds were in the fray. Though Admiralty did not win in the manner expected, the fact that the son of Admiralofthefleet was running for the first time against formidable opponents could be the reason why he had to be stretched to pull it off. Admiralty is sure to have a say in the classics though he is not going to have things easy as he is going to find completion increasingly tougher in his next assignment which is the Gr 1 Colts Championship. The disappointment of the race though was the lackluster performance of the most accomplished runner in the race, namely Eternal Flame who flopped miserably even though she had the uphill task of conceding weight to all her adversaries. She failed to put up a formidable performance.

Desert God set a fast clip in front followed by Auriga, Eternal Flame, Admiralty and the rest. Desert God put up dogged resistance in front and led into the final furlong. Eternal Flame flattered to deceive as she raced flat and struggled to pass the front running duo. Admiralty joined the issue inside the final furlong and after a brief tussle with Auriga, got stronger at the finish to win with a measure of comfort. Desert God stayed on to take the third while Eternal Flame was a disappointing fourth. Though Eternal Flame had the herculean task of conceding weight, the spark in her was surely missing as was evident by her tame performance. She needs to improve a lot to bounce back.

Inayathullah trained Vivid Impression who has been pretty consistent, smashed the opposition in taking style in the 1200 metres Dhamaprakasha L S Venkaji Rao Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Ancient Title who was running after a longish break came in for spirited support in the betting ring resulting in the odds on Vivid Impression expanding dramatically. Shrewd Master ended up as the second favourite. Ancient Title led in earnest into the straight but it was clear well before the final furlong that the best travelling horse was Vivid Impression on whom jockey Vivek was sitting still. Vivid Impression devoured ground all by herself and won in emphatic fashion with Shrewd Master finishing second best. Native Indian made a good rally to finish a suggestive third ahead of Ancient Title.

Miss Adler was backed spiritedly to win the 1200 metres Ministerial Trophy (Div I), a race for maiden three year olds. The Padmanabhan trainee went on a successful start to finish mission and pulled away from the rest in the straight to record an impressive win. Faster Than Light nosed out Rare And Bold and Majorca for the runner up berth. There was solid support for One`s Own and debutant Madiba but both dished out dismal performance. Arjun Mangalorkar`s Castle Key won the lower division of the race quiet easily, having the race sewn up long way from home. Amethyst made a late rally to finish second ahead of Diamond Queen. There was noticeable betting on Sir Legend but the horse ran green and finished poorly.

The 1400 metres Bangalore City Administrator`s Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, had quite a few quality three year olds in the fray. Mumbai challenger Myrtlewood was widely expected to win it with ease judging by the one-sided support that this full sister to Amelia received in the betting ring. In the event, Conspicuous who had made a smashing winning debut win winter, raced up front and skipped away from the rest to win in brilliant fashion. New Alliance ran on well to be a noteworthy second ahead of Let There Be Light while Myrtlewood was a disappointing fourth.

Suleiman Attaollahi trained Connemara recorded her second straight win with a gutsy performance in the 1600 metres Dupont Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Connemara raced up front and shot into a sizeable lead on turning for home which held her in good stead. Lucia made a late charge but found the winning post coming a wee bit early. Mystic Music was another who put in a belated effort to finish third. Native Force who was the favourite did not give hope at any stage of the race.

Favourite Magical Light proved too strong for the field in the 1200 metres Romantic Dancer Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45, with a powerful effort down the final furlong. Rock N Rolla showed flourish at the finish to snatch the runner up berth from long time leader Sir Majestic while Pegasus was a close fourth. Long shot Boysterous produced a thrilling effort inside the final 200 metres to down the front running favourite Admiral Messi in the closing strides of the race and claimed the lower division of the race.

Lesser fancied Tronada brought off a quiet touch with a start to finish effort, easily containing the late bid of favourite China One to win the 1400 metres Lady Gibraltar Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Tronada had won in winter as a strongly backed runner in the hands of jockey Ranjeet Singh. He once again guided the fortunes of Tronada which perhaps ensured a good price for the three year old filly. Colorato who was at the wrong end of the field had no chance and his finishing effort fetched him third slot.

There was noticeable support for Alecia whose odds came tumbling down in the 1400 metres Ascot Plate, a race for lowest rated horses. True to market expectation, Alecia raced up front enjoying an uncontested lead and she skipped clear of the rest in the straight to win by a widening margin of nine lengths over Equal Terms and Mister Grey.
