Manjri Stud Farm horses in limelight

By: Stay Thirsty   June 17 , 2015

B K Narendra trained Fink overcame ring rustiness and asserted his class in emphatic manner while claiming the 1200 metres Stewards Trophy, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races. The Manjri Stud Farm horses were in limelight with success in four races though unfortunately the last one was disqualified because of what was perceived as dangerous riding on the part of jockey K G Steyn who was associated with all the success.

Fink was eased in about fifth position as stablemate Constantine set the pace. Steyn brought Fink wide into the straight and the progeny of Phoenix Tower steadily bridged the gap and was hailed a winner well before the final furlong. Class Is Class closed in the gap to be a suggestive second ahead of Vijays Champ who came from a long way back to claim the third place.

Steyn could have signed off with four wins and trainer Narendra with three but Daylite lost the race in the Stewards after winning the 1400 metres Goa Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65 quite comfortably. There were two objections and a Stewards enquiry to boot. Inside the final 350 metres Murcilago went across Daylite, cramping him for room as he had Capitano and Distant Promise immediately alongside. Murcilago rolling over to the rails did have adverse impact on the mind of Steyn who in his anxiety to get a clear run angled it out, interfering with the horse on his outside. The horse veered out causing interference to Spiritual Blue who was making his run from way behind. Murcilago nosed out Spiritual Blue for the runner up berth. The Stewards disqualified Daylite despite the fact that the horse was overwhelmingly superior to the field. Also Steyn did come out but the others reacted more aggressively causing a chain reaction which made the primary interference look bad. A charitable view would have been to let the winner keep the race and punish the jockey for careless riding.

Veteran trainer Zareer Darashah saddled a winner through Bandito who won the 1200 metres Irappu Falls Plate (Div I), a race for hoses rated 40 to 65, in fine fashion. Jockey M Kumar was unable to control the drift of front running Flying Tricolour and bumped Bandito who was also sliding in but this incident did not affect the result of the race. Bandito went on to win easily in the hands of Steyn. Absolute Pleasure held off the rally of favourite Bucethalis along the rails and landed the spoils in the lower division of the race as a well backed runner.

Three horses were withdrawn from the fray in the 1200 metres Kapila Plate, a race for three year olds and this included joint favourite Diamond Attraction. Mr Go was left with a modest opposition to tackle which he did with minimum of fuss in the hands of Steyn. One noticeable feature of Steyn`s riding is that he does not keep his horses on a straight line and tends to drift out. Chambray showed some improvement when he rallied late to finish a good second.

Lesser fancied Come On Gingin gained ascendancy in the final furlong of the 1400 metres Hiriyur Plate, a race for lowest rated horses and easily held off the late challenge of Brigadier who overcame a sluggish start and produced a strong effort which however went in vain. Favourite Touch of Romance was not up to delivering the goods.

Favourite Secret Touch had to cover plenty of leeway on front running Dare To Don but he got up in time to edge ahead in the closing stages of the race to claim the Alberetto Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Born For Beauty was third. Monnappa`s Lincon Continental rallied strongly in the final furlong and managed to nose out Al Dhama in the closing stride of the race to record an encore. Catchy Charger who had chased the front runner through the straight finished a close third.
