By: Tippu Sultan   July 26 , 2015

Faisal Hassan trained That`s My Darling who had won at Bangalore in the Stewards room required no such help this time out as she recorded a comprehensive win in the 1600 metres Tungabhadra Plate, a Category II race which was the main event of Sunday`s races held at Malakpet.

After being held back in about the fifth or sixth position, That`s My Darling made headway along the opening that materialized along the rails and stretched away for a comfortable win. Red Ramble made a futile effort to catch up with the front runner. Laurel Canyon was third.

Leo D`Silva trained Amethyst who had run forwarded races in Bangalore, proved immensely superior to the opposition in the 1200 metres Set Alight Plate, a race for maiden three year olds. The fact that Amethyst had run in better company and had superior fitness showed in the manner in which the progeny of China Visit cantered home. Jockey Suraj Narredu had Amethyst lead from the start and the three year old filly broke clear of the opposition without the jockey having to move a muscle. Lethal King who was at the wrong end of the field till turning for home, gained places on the wide outside to finish second. This run should help the debutant do better next time out.

Ananth Vatsalya trained Silver Passion had won against the run of expectations last time. The quality of that win was so good that a repeat win was something that everyone expected the four year old filly to achieve in style. Accordingly, Silver Passion was the firm favourite to win the 1600 metres Nawab Mehdi Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup, a Category III race. Jockey Aneel had Silver Passion in a handy position behind pace setter Dolce. Silver Passion smoothly accelerated in the straight and had the race sewn up long way from home. Golden Flash made a late dash to edge past long-time leader Dolce to get the runner up berth. Ante post favourite City Tex was withdrawn from the fray on veterinary grounds.

The well supported Kintyre Princess did all the running and just about held on to win from Grenadier to win the 1100 metres Maltese Prince Plate (Div I), a Category III race. Kintyre Princess was strongly challenged by Grenadier and the two fought the length of the final furlong with the latter threatening menacingly. However, Kintyre Princess pulled out that bit extra and prevailed by the proverbial whisker. Debutant Vijay Vishw was a tame third while Hunter`s Pride who was backed with conviction was not spotted at the busy end. R H Sequeira trained Bouquet brought off the biggest upset of the day winning the lower division of the race. Bottom weighted Symbol of Pride led all the way but close home, was strongly pressed by Bouquet and Pour Vous. Bouquet ultimately prevailed by a neck over Pour Vous who pushed Symbol of Pride to the third place by a whisker.

Satheesh trained Fair And Square had the luck of the race in the 1100 metres Golden Dagger Plate (Div I), a Category II race. Favourite Military Belle was squeezed out at the start and fell to the rear. Military Belle failed to get a clear run till deep into the straight and by the time she got going, Fair And Square who went on a start to finish had established a winning lead. Coral Springs ran on to finish third.

Favourite Whats Up had to be driven out to measure the front running Catherine in the closing strides of the race to win the Division II of the race. Catherine did all the front running and held the initiative going into the final furlong but Whats Up responded well to the driving finish of Kuldeep Singh and produced that bit extra which made the difference to the outcome of the race. Glorious View had a beneficial race when finishing third.

K R K Raju trained K R K Raju trained Kohinoor Thunder successfully accomplished start to finish mission Division III of the race. Proud Image was strongly backed to win but the horses reared up as the start was given and took a fly jump losing all the chances. Kohinoor Thunder travelled well in front and none in the back looked capable of overhauling him. Field Commander improved places along the rails to finish second ahead of Field Commander.
