Dare To Dream stays firm in front

By: Tippu Sultan   August 23 , 2015

Srinivas Reddy trained Dare To Dream held on resolutely to thwart the late bid of Azzurro to land the rich spoils in the Gr 2 Nizam`s Cup, a rich terms race for four year olds and over, the highlight of races held at Malakpet on Sunday. Azzurro changed legs repeatedly in the straight which hurt the chances of the favourite from Bangalore.

Azzurro who had a string of impressive wins at Bangalore was widely expected to put it across local challenger Dare To Dream who had the distinction of stretching Quasar to the hilt in the Golconda Derby. Sovereign Rule set the pace as the field set out for the mile and quarter trip with Azzurro dropping back to third position after leading for a while. Dare To Dream raced in a handy second position. Parushram, Arrogant Approach and Bold Majesty were in close order while Booker Jones failed to pick up speed and stayed in the rear position. Tintinnabulation who was stranded for a while at the gates was tailed off last.

Dare to Dream displaced the pace setter and took over the running soon after straightening for home with Azzurro and Parushram going in hot pursuit. Dare To Dream skipped away from the rest even as Azzurro struggled to pick up steam. Azzurro, under the use of the whip on the right, drifted out alarmingly and when the jockey changed the whip hand, the four year old darted in. This sort of maneuverer went on in the straight and only in the final furlong did Azzurro stretch out fully, keeping a straight course but the cause had already been lost. Dare To Dream held on to win by 1/4th of a length. Arrogant Approach showed some improvement in form finishing third ahead of Booker Jones who rallied well in the straight.

Prasad Raju trained Midnight In Paris won the 1100 metres Army Trophy (Div I), a Category II race at lucrative odds. Favourite Rock Heights led in earnest well into the straight but once Midnight In Paris got going there was no stopping the lesser fancied runner who went sailing clear. Midnight In Paris had no problem checking in well clear of late rallying Prince of Arabia. Rock Heights stayed on to finish third. A big upset resulted in the lower division of the race where Vijays Grandeour accelerated tremendously from mid-group in the straight and broke clear. Kohinoor Thunder who was bidding for a hat-trick put up a stiff fight but what made the difference was the fact that apprentice jockey Kunal Bunde could not ride out aggressively drive horse without the aid of the whip as he is still to be entitled to one. Military Cross ran on to finish third while Field Commander missed the kick.

On money favourite Advocate General continued to disappoint as he went down tamely in the 1400 metres P R Khade Memorial Cup, a Category II race. Advocate General was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey Pradeep Chouhan. The front runner who ran too freely in front was under pressure when Lopamudra essayed her challenge inside the final 300 metres. Advocate General surrendered without a fight. Even as Lopamudra was in the process of overhauling the favourite, Ivanova began to assert her supremacy with a powerful run down the final furlong. The Laxman Singh trainee then bounded clear to record an easy win, with the favourite beaten to the third spot.

Srinivas Reddy trained Chal Dhannu Chal managed to pull through in the 1400 metres Khammam Plate, a Category III race. Oathofyourdaughter led the field from the start with Kimono and favourite Kalinda racing in close proximity ahead of Chal Dhannu Chal. Inside the final furlong, Oathofyourdaughter was strongly pressed by favourite Kalinda who looked poised to take over the running. However, Chal Dhannu Chal who was under pressure to pick up speed, all of a sudden began to accelerate resolutely and the trio went past the post locked together. Chal Dhannu Chal had prevailed by a head over favourite Kalinda who in turn was a short head ahead of the long-time front runner.

Lethal King from the stables of Srinivas Reddy appeared to have a tough ask as the front running Found Money in the hands of Chouhan had built up a useful cushion going into the final furlong, but the former produced such a gallop that in a trice, he had gone clear of the front runner to win in impressive fashion, the 1400 metres Chaitanya Chakram Cup, a Category II race. Limitation who was sluggish at the start, picked up momentum in the straight to occupy the third slot.

Prasad Raju trained Golden Flash had served notice of an early success with a noteworthy second in her last effort and she justified such an expectation with an easy win in the 1800 metres Donegal Plate, a Category III race. Golden Flash moved up with raking strides inside the final 300 metres and sailed away for a comfortable win over Cloud Dancer who found rhythm after the cause had been lost. Nano Dame held off Chocolate Greedy to get the third place.

Faisal Hassan trained Italian Cypress recorded an encore by having the measure of front running Beauty Flash and then storming beyond the reach of the rest to win the 1200 metres Elusive Hero Cup (Div II), a Category III race. Dancing Farha produced a late effort which could only fetch the runner up berth.
