Michael Eshwer saddles a treble for Manjri colours

By: Stay Thirsty   November 25 , 2015

Trainer Michael Eshwer saddled a treble for owner Shapoor Misty of Manjri Stud Farm at the races held on Wednesday in Mysore. All the three horses won as strongly backed horses. Two-year old Pacquiao made a winning debut, with a comprehensive win in the 1100 metres Committee Trophy, a race for two year olds, which was the feature event of the day. Jockey Arshad Alam who is striking it rich in Mysore, had a quadruple as apart from the horses of trainer Eshwer, he also drove out Bestow to a resolute win

Pacquiao was blazing the track and was backed to the exclusion of the rest. Though the progeny of Arabian Gulf tend to enjoy more ground than the five and half furlongs that he was tackling, the fact that Pacquiao was well prepared and stood out against his contemporaries was indicative of the fact that the sharpness of the trip would not matter. Jockey Arshad Alam was alert to the task as he pushed Pacquiao to take a handy position behind pace setter Lovely Micmel. The favourite travelled in second position well into the straight before displacing the front runner with minimum of effort and then stormed away to record an easy win. Country`s Angel finished on well to edge out Lovely Micmel for the runner up berth.

Naval Glory came in for strong support in the 1800 metres Treasure`s Nest Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above. However, the favourite found Daylite unrelenting in front. The Eshwer trainee was taken on a start to finish mission by Arshad Alam and Daylite enjoyed the foray in front and had so much in reserve when passing the winning post well clear of Naval Glory who was hard pressed to bridge the gap. Carisa who raced up with the pace, ended third. The Mysore Race Club experimented with a new commentator for this race and he did a fair job. With experience and encouragement, he could prove to be pretty useful.

The 1200 metres Nagarhole Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, saw Sufficient Proof coming in for inspired support even as the odds on last start winner Bestow drifted out in the ring. Bestow did not get an impressive start and the filly was caught deep in the rear with Bucethalis setting the pace. Midway through the straight, Dare The Don came into strong contention. Bestow who had some leeway to cover on the front runner, got all the spaces in the centre as Arshad Alam drove out the fancied runner to win the race with a measure of comfort in the end. Sufficient Proof rallied strongly on the wide outside and got past Dare The Don to secure the runner up berth. Jersey Bride too finished on powerfully with an eye-catching effort though she missed the third spot by a whisker.

Monnappa trained Strengthandwonder had all the credentials to win the 1400 metres Pandavapura Plate, having advertised his readiness to strike in his last run where he had finished a suggestive second. Now backed strongly to win the 1400 metres Pandavapura Plate, Strengthandwonder came through with a powerful run down the final furlong to have the race sewn up long way from home. Gunpowder, as is his wont, finished with a late rally to occupy the second slot ahead of Lucky Emerald and Blue Zone.

Last start winner Beautiful Effect travelled powerfully into the straight and it did not take long for the fancied runner to take charge from front running favourite Sky Jasmine inside the final 350 metres and record a convincing win in the 1400 metres Bandipur Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Jockey M Mark rode a confident race on the winner. Al Dorado was second ahead of Sky Jasmine who barely managed to hang on to the third place by whisker over late finishing Bryant Park. Eshwer`s Skyfullofstars won the lower division of the race toying with the opposition. Jockey Arshad Alam pushed the favourite to take over the running inside the final 300 metres and the progeny of Phoenix Tower had no problem in sailing clear of front running Smart Mistral and then win by a widening margin of five lengths over Precious Script. New Sunrise displaced long-time leader Smart Mistral from the third slot. No whips were allowed to be carried by the jockeys in both these races which incidentally were won by favourites.

Rakesh trained Star Mountain looked formidable in the 1600 metres Sakaleshpur Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45 and accordingly was accorded the status of being an overwhelming favourite. Jockey Madhu Babu had Star Mountain race in a handy third position as Felix Legion set the pace and disappeared from the scene midway through the straight. Star Mountain assumed command approaching the final furlong and broke clear of the rest to record a facile win. For Your Eyes only held off Royal Prodigy to get the third position.

Somashekar trained Speed King displayed tremendous acceleration in the final furlong to take control of 1100 metres K R S Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class and won with great ease from late finishing Magic Wave and Sharp Girl. Al Dhama who was also strongly fancied to win, led the field into the straight before weakening. She reportedly came back lame.
