Daylite wins opening day`s feature

By: Stay Thirsty   May 25 , 2016

Michael Eshwer trained Daylite had no problem in keeping his rivals at bay with a start to finish effort in the 1400 metres Grey Gaston Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, which featured the opening day`s races of the Mysore Summer Season held on Wednesday. The Manjri Stud Farm bred Daylite had the race sewn up long way from home. Eshwer had a double through another Manjri horse, Excelerate who won the day`s opening race for maiden three year olds. Zervan was associated with both these wins as jockey Suraj Narredu had injured himself in a fall at Bangalore during morning track work.

Racing resumed in Mysore after a break of about three months and the entries as such were full, making way for a nine event card interestingly having a full complement of 12 runners in each of these races. Daylite had won one race during the winner before finishing off the frame. Since the track work pointed out to the five year old gelding enjoying a clear edge, Daylite became the firm favourite. Zervan had no hesitation in taking the favourite on a start to finish mission. The favourite came under no threat from any of the rivals as he spared two lengths at the finish to late finishing New World who made a good rally in the final furlong. Demanding Format nosed out Miss International to get the third place. Reanna made no show.

Girinath trained Absolute Brave had four outings during the winter seasons and the last two runs indicated that the seven-year-old showed some semblance of returning to form. Momotaro was widely expected to be the horse with the right credentials to win the 1600 metres Trombay Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Absolute Brave who is a product of Mumbai racing but relocated to Mysore, showed that he had not lost zest for racing with a strong effort in the final stages of the race to edge past Extra Spark who held the initiative for a long while in the straight. Favourite Momotaro was a tame third.

Lesser fancied Mr Carpe recorded a facile win in the 1200 metres Beloved Prince Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65, with a late dash. Dark William set a fast pace with Mr Carpe in about the eighth position as the horses took the final turn. Mr Carpe improved the leeway swiftly on the wide outside and by the final furlong, looked set to collar the front runners. Mr Carpe eventually went on to win by three lengths over favourite Ruthba who found the six-furlong trip too sharp for comfort and had to settle for the runner up berth from Secret Touch and Albatross who all finished in a line. Haptic Star who had been relocated from Bangalore after winning his last outing, was stranded in the gates. Surender trained Champion Stars produced a winning effort in the final furlong to measure the front running As Good As Gold for a facile win in the lower division of the race. Favourite Deltin could do no better than finish third, finding the two horses which finished ahead of her being too speedy for comfort.

Excelerate had problem in tackling the opposition in the 1100 metres Kushalnagar Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Excelerate encountered brief resistance from Halloween`s Way in the straight before storming clear in the final furlong for an impressive win. Country`s Courage finished long way behind in third position.

Sharavanan trained Al Dahma has always been a speedy customer but found herself outpaced in the end. Her last win was 910 days ago but since she had reached the lowest class, she found support coming her way in the betting ring in the hope that class may help her prevail in the 1100 metres Red Satin Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class. Jockey Uday Kiran took Al Dahma on a start to finish mission and the six-year-old did not come under pressure from any of the contestants and recorded an easy which was the third in her career. Always United made a futile chase of the front runner and had to settle for the runner up position. Friends Forever was faraway third. Girinath trained Scaramouche pounced on the front runners inside the final furlong and then went sailing clear to record a comfortable win over favourite Stride To Success in the lower division of the race.

Reach The Stars came in for sustained betting in the 1200 metres Dubare Forest Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Jockey John confidently took Reach The Stars on a start to finish mission and the favourite enjoyed her foray in front and checked in well clear of late finishing Kir Royale by a good margin. Zoe held off Delilah for the third place.

Rakesh trained Siddhani was a comprehensive winner of the 1400 metres Melukote Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Siddhani shot ahead with 200 metres left in the race and stormed away from the rest to win by a widening margin of five lengths. Robinhood Pandey was second ahead of Pacquiao.
