Absolute Brave claims feature at long odds

By: Stay Thirsty   June 22 , 2016

Girinath trained Absolute Brave won the 1600 metres RWITC Ltd Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races with great deal of ease though he failed to maintain a straight course in the final furlong. He drifted out under the right handed whipping of Jagadeesh and then ducked towards the rails. However, this act did not cause any serious damage to the prospects of So Fast who finished second best.

Grand Success led the field from the start, with Absolute Brave in second position ahead of Class Is Class, So Fast and the rest. Grand Success weakened inside the final 300 metres and Absolute Brave shot ahead at this point of time. So Fast who was not far behind, too made his run. The horse appeared to be lugging in and it took a while for Suraj to get the horse to gallop on an even keel. He changed course in the final furlong and elected to go closer to the rails. In the meanwhile, Jagadeesh who was using the whip on the right which caused Absolute Brave to drift further, gathered the horse and pushed it in. Absolute Brave eventually went on to win. Sofast was third while Class Is Class necked out Grand Success for the third place.

Suraj Narredu put an objection against Jagadeesh that the outward drift of the winner caused him to lose ground and that when he moved on the inside, Absolute Brave once again veered in intimidatingly, causing him to lose narrowly, by ¾ of a length. Under such circumstances, he horse would have been the rightful winner of the race. Though Absolute Brave cut an erratic course, it did not have a bearing on the result and the objection was overruled by the Stewards.

Michael Eshwer trained Excelerate had recorded an impressive win in a race meant for three year olds in his last outing. Backed to the exclusion of the rest in the 1200 metres Kodlipet Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, Excelerate took a long while in the straight to get past the speedy front runner Rare Emerald before getting the nod close home. Bestow ran on from behind to take the third slot.

Monnappa trained Gelignite had spent useful time during the Ooty season which perhaps explained why he looked so fit in the 1400 metres Republican Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. The well-built son of Mathematician was backed down spiritedly and the favourite who led from the start gave no anxious moments to his supported as he held command from the start and checked in three lengths clear of Port Blair. Bold Police was faraway third.

Santosh Rao trained Anonymous recorded a facile win in the 1400 metres Talakaveri Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Backed confidently by the supporters of the seven-year-old mare, Anonymous moved with a flourish in the final furlong to go storming clear to win from favourite Malkia. Spinning Chakram was third another short neck behind.

Jockey S John drove out Golden Cruise to a comfortable win over Sazae San in the 1200 metres Harangi Dam Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Sazae San attempted start to finish tactics in the hands of apprentice Abhilash but despite the youngster`s enthusiastic effort, the stronger riding of John made a difference to the outcome as Golden Cruise got strong closer home to eventually win by a margin of three lengths. Country`s Charm was a well beaten third. Favourite Roland was not spotted at the busy end. Peppr held forte from the start in the lowest division of the race and fought gallantly all the way in the straight before succumbing by a nose to Heidrun in the lower division of the race. Jockey Imran Khan had to use all the resources at his command to get Heidrun to nose out the front runner.

Monnappa`s Lorenzo was well backed to win the day`s opener, the 1400 metres Kinski Plater, a race for maiden three year olds. Stablemate Saigar put up dogged resistance in the front before Lorenzo was able to surge past the front runner inside the final 100 metres to justify strong expectations. Sardina was faraway third.
