Excelerate maintains winning streak

By: Stay Thirsty   July 14 , 2016

Michael Eshwer trained Excelerate maintained his winning streak by completing a hat-trick of wins by claiming the 1200 metres Girinagara Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the highest rated event of Thursday`s Mysore races. Eshwer also led in the winner of the last race through another Manjri Stud Farm produce Pacquiao who trounced the opposition in tremendous fashion.

Eshwer trained Excelerate had won twice during the season and looked set to record an encore in the 1200 metres Girinagara Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Mumbai import Shivalik Story did the customary front-running and led until the final furlong. Excelerate who was travelling within himself, managed to overhaul the front-runner and won with a measure of comfort from Clever Trick who edged out the long time from the runner-up berth. Shivalik Story managed to cling on to the third position by a narrow margin from late flashing Dyna. In the form that he is in, Excelerate should maintain his winning run though he would be better off tackling a furlong longer.

The odds on Eshwer`s other ward Pacquiao expanded significantly as Speed Queen came in for vigorous support in the betting ring to win the 1200 metres Tipathi Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Zervan on the favourite tracked the speedy Al Dahma who did the customary front-running role before pushing Pacquiao to take charge inside the final furlong. The progeny of Arabian Gulf stormed ahead to win by a widening margin of six lengths over Speed Queen and Al Dahma. Kiran Rai drove out Amazing Connection to get the better of favourite Silent Trust to win the lower division of the race. Silent Trust shot ahead inside the final 300 metres with Amazing Connection who was switched out wide to get a clear run, trying hard to cover the leeway. Amazing Connection warmed up to the task close home and managed to win with something to spare in the end. Generous Gesture found foot late to finish third. Erebus ran keen in the early part before disappearing without a trace to finish a dismal last.

Tejaswi trained Port Blair won the 1400 metres Star Supreme Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, in a fighting finish. Tremendous who was bidding for a hat-trick came in for sustained support in the ring while Port Blair who had run a suggestive second behind Gelignite, was allowed to run at lucrative odds. Country`s Sher led the field from the start with Excelonce in a handy position ahead of Port Bair who was along the rails and favourite Tremendous on his outside. Jockey Jagadeesh persisted in trying to push Port Blair through a narrow gap between the front-running duo of Country`s Sher and Excelonce while Tremendous gained ground on the wide outside. It took a long while for Port Blair to shoot through as the horse was lugging in but once he got through, Port Blair stretched out well to contain the challenge of Excelonce and late charging Tremendous. Country`s Sher weakened to finish fourth. The winner spared half a length at the finish.

Pratap Kamath trained Felix Legion justified the favouritism in the 1400 metres Sea Bisquit Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class. Alps led from the start and inside the final 100 metres faltered allowing Felix Legion to take over the running and win with a measure of comfort. Alps came up with a renewed bid and managed to save the runner-up berth from Sunbow and Green Emerald.

Kamath had a double for the day as long shot Myarprincess fought a stiff battle with Dark William and recorded a resolute in in the 1200 metres Diabolical Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Myarprincess looked vulnerable when Dark William essayed a strong challenge in the final furlong but the former dug deep and managed to win quite comfortably in the end. Favourite Veni Vidi Vici, as is his wont, charged home late but could only get the third place. Last start winner Happy Victory was lethargic at the gates and ran without hope.
