Constantine bounces back to peak form

By: Stay Thirsty   November 30 , 2016

Michael Eshwer trained Constantine who had gone off the boil with a few below par efforts after the brilliant effort in the Sprinter`s Cup in March, bounced back to record an authoritative win in the 1200 metres Wynad Forest Plate, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the main event of races held at Mysore on Wednesday.

There was no doubt about the class of Constantine but after the effort at Chennai, Constantine had run a couple of times and did not show any form. However, the long rest perhaps had helped him to regain his zest as he led from the start and spared more than seven lengths at the finish to New World. Fink whose career is affected by a serious tendon injury, ran on to finish third and returned lame. Constantine should pick up a couple of races on the local track going by this display.

Eshwer`s another ward Pacquiao also proved to be very superior in the 1200 metres D V Vishwanath Memorial Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. After being relaxed in about the fourth or fifth position, Pacquiao moved up with raking strides in the straight and overwhelmed the opposition by winning the race by a margin of over six lengths. Praelector held off Lucky Pineapple to get the second position. Generous Gestured was subjected to a veterinary check at the gates which perhaps might have scared a few of his supporters in the lower division of the race. Despite an interfered run, Generous Gesture flew home to get the nod by a narrow margin in a four-horse cluster finish. Classic King was second ahead of Aliboxer and Zagato in a desperately close finish.

Apprentice jockey R Ajay Kumar drove out Haloween`s Way to stave off the late challenge of Wolf Rock to win the 1400 metres Bandipur Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Haloween`s Way came through from the mid-bunch and showed up prominently at the top of the straight and shot ahead in the final 100 metres. Wolf Rock showed intent with some aggression but jockey Janardhan P was not up to the task of pushing the horse out to get that bit extra to make a difference to the outcome of the race. Ephialities beat Mother Ewa to get the third place. Tejaswi trained Amazing made rapid ground in the straight from way behind to get past long-time leader Eloika to win the lower division of the race. Ice Weapon plodded on to be third position unable to find something extra despite being in a striking position.

The well-backed Country`s Storm had no problem in winning the 1100 metres Gonikoppa Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. Country`s Storm was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey Saddam Hussain and the favourite always kept a healthy lead right through the five and half furlong trip to win in a convincing manner. Six Ace Red and Velvet Rose occupied the next two slots on the frame.

Surender trained Senator improved places swiftly in the straight along the rails to go storming clear in the final furlong to win the 1100 metres K R S Plate, a race for horses in the lowest class. Strides To Success finished on well to get past long-time leader Roi Junior to get the runner-up berth.

Albatross gained speed in the final furlong as he came home with a big effort to sweep past the front-running horses to win the 1400 metres Pandavapura Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Arrive who made the bid with start to finish tactics, stayed on to keep the second place narrowly ahead of Malkia and Dhanyavaad.
