Serjeant At Arms emphatic in reappearance

  May 14 , 2017

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Serjeant At Arms maintained his unbeaten run on the Bangalore track with an effortless win in the Gr 3 Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Cup, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Sunday`s races. The Nanoli Stud Farm bred Serjeant At Arms who has lost twice in his career over extended trips at Mysore and Mumbai in the respective Derbys, is simply invincible over shorter trips and his emphatic win once again confirmed the belief that his superiority will continue unabated for more time.

Serjeant At Arms was quoted at cramped odds notwithstanding the fact that the higher rated, course record holder for the distance Bold Command was in the fray. Bold Command has never been a model of consistency and he has never backed up one outstanding performance with another one. Bold Command not only failed to stretch Serjeant At Arms but flopped miserably confirming this belief about his inconsistency. Shivalik Star set a decent clip with Serjeant At Arms settled in the mid group with jockey Sandesh confident of overhauling the ones in front any time he wished. Serjeant At Arms moved with raking strides in the final furlong and bounced clear to win by a margin of two lengths without having to be stretched to go past the post. Fire Glow showed some zest while finishing strongly, edging past Smile Stone to get the runner-up berth.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Antananarivo looked a cut above the rest in the 1200 metres M N Prakash Memorial Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50 as the four-year-old filly had the experience of running against top quality runners in terms events. She was strongly backed to win though her supporters would have had a moment of discomfort when she walked out of the gates. Though Antananarivo was in the rear, she cut through the field in the straight to surge past the front-running Zafran with ease to record a smashing win. Mariko was third. The form that Antananarivo displayed was of a much higher class but the only area of concern at this point of time to consider her as a good thing next time out is her sluggish jump from the gates. The filly always had shown great alacrity from the gates in the past. Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Duke of Clarence came in for significant betting to win the lower division of the race. The favourite for the race was Grecian Light with Sterling Role also in serious betting ante post. Jockey Trevor Patel had Duke of Clarence in a handy position as Sterling Role led the field into the straight. Sterling Role had a handy lead and shaped to win but slackened close home. Duke of Clarence gathered steam in the final furlong to edge past the front-runner in the final stages of the race. Indian Legend necked out Grecian Light for the third place.

Attorney General was well placed to have a bold show in the 1400 metres Dr T Thimmaiah Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. Jockey Suraj Narredu had Attorney General in a handy position well into the straight before skipping clear. Arvak took a while to warm up and by the time he got going, Attorney General was already in the safe zone. Shining Magic who was sluggish at the start, made ground in the straight to get past Royal Rein to return good dividend on place betting.

Prasanna Kumar trained Rum Runner had the race at his mercy after Dynamism was withdrawn from the fray on veterinary grounds in the 1400 metres Allaire Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Jockey S John had no problem in pushing Rum Runner to take charge in the final furlong to record a comfortable win over Nyssa. Secret Prayer was third.

Irfan Ghatala trained Torsoro was an impressive winner of the 1100 metres Sir Bruce Pate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Bora Bora was the firm favourite and the progeny of Phoenix Tower led in earnest and shaped like a winner as she had a handy lead going into the final furlong. However, Torsoro who was literally at the back of the field at the final bend, flew home and overhauled the front-runner in great style. Aine was third which is suggestive of possibilities in her next outing.

Jockey Srinath`s power packed riding was largely instrumental in Gregory Sandhu trained Astrild to win the 1400 metres Quasar Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Astrild who shot into the lead along the rails with a ground saving effort looked vulnerable but managed to keep her neck in front of High Admiral on whom jockey Ashad Asbar for enterprising enough. Bellerophon was third. Lokanath Gowda trained Arziki who hadn`t won for 905 days but come down a lot in class, smashed the opposition to win the lower division of the race. Emancipation held off the well fancied Midnight Sky to claim the runner-up berth.

Pradeep Annaiah trained Carducci won the 1200 metres Aureole Time Plate, a race for horses rated15 to 35 at lucrative odds. Carducci who shot into the lead after straightening for the homestretch sped clear to win from Romantic Heaven and Goat. Celestial Storm who attracted a good volume of betting reportedly bled and finished down the field.
