Kingoftheworld trounces opposition in feature

By: Stay Thirsty   May 24 , 2017

Michael Eshwer trained Kingoftheworld who was back to running in a handicap race after a failed effort in the South India Derby in January, found the opposition too meek for comfort and won the 1400 metres Grey Gaston Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of opening day`s races of the Mysore Summer Season with ease on Wednesday. Eshwer had a profitable day saddling four winners.

It was only to be expected that Kingoftheworld would steamroll the opposition because he was a cut above the local opposition. Jockey Prashanth Dhebe had the short priced favourite take over the running approaching for home and the progeny of Phoenix Tower kept on expanding the lead in the straight to win by a widening margin of nine lengths over Storming Home and Extra Spark. In the form that he is in, Kingoftheworld should win a host of races.

Eshwer trained Tobin had good credentials to win the 1200 metres Dubare Forest Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45 and accordingly was accorded the status of being the favourite to win the race. Dare The Don very nearly spoiled the party by going on a start to finish mission and enjoying a healthy cushion in the final furlong. Apprentice jockey Vishal Bunde did not panic as he kept working on the horse to get the desired response. Tobin devoured ground in the closing stages of the race to get past the front-runner in the shadow of the post. Reach The Stars too finished strongly to take the third positon.

Tigris was quoted at unbackable odds in the 1100 metres Kushalnagar Pate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The Eshwer trainee hit the front from the start and was not troubled by any of the runners. Tigris established an unassailable lead in the straight to eventually finish a distance ahead of Lord Iisley and Silvery Grey. Jockey Dhebe thus had one of the easiest wins of his career.

Unbelievable was another of Eshwer wards to win in the hands of Dhebe. Unbelievable had a commanding lead going in the final stages of the race and won the 1100 metres Red Satin Plate (Div I) from Break On Thru. Unbelievable reportedly bled after the race. Order Order was a tame third. The lower division of the race too turned out to be a one-sided after with Saravanan trained Al Dhama making it a start to finish mission. The speedy Al Dhama had a good lead right from the start and travelled into the final furlong to win with a great measure of comfort over Vroom Vroom and Flaming Spear.

One doesn`t remember when jockey Guruprasad booted home his last winner. He was successful astride Naval Glory in the 1600 metres Trombay Plate where the six-year-old proved too superior to the opposition. Moving strongly from the mid-position in the 11-horse field, Naval Glory left the rest including favourite Gusty Wind stranded in the final furlong to win by a margin of over five lengths. It is needless to say that Naval Glory was least fancied and returned a dividend of Rs 468 on a tenner. Chandini was third.

Tejaswi who saddled Naval Glory, also had another long-priced winner through Aliboxer who toyed with the opposition in the1200 metres Beloved Prince Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65 and had the field stranded long way from home. Favourite Atlantis finished second more than then seven lengths behind the winner. Bandito was third, returning good dividends on place betting.

Srinivas Babu trained Lucky Emerald was another upset of the day, winning at odds of 20 to 1 in the 1400 metres Melukote Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to45. One Step Ahead led the field into the final furlong but could not sustain the lead in the face of a strong rally made by Lucky Emerald who got stronger close home in the hands of jockey Amyn Merchant. Here`s Abbey necked out favourite Clouds to grab the third place.
