Flying Show edges past Constantine in feature

By: Stay Thirsty   June 22 , 2017

M Bobby trained Flying Show was relentless in her chase of favourite Constantine and managed to gain ascendancy in the final stages of the races to win the 1200 metres Stewards Trophy, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of Thursday`s races held at Mysore. The top-weight told on Constantine who failed to keep a straight course and shifted out under pressure which also hurt his chances.

Constantine had run against better quality horses in the all India circuit and hence enjoyed strong support to win the race ahead of Flying Show who was racing on the back of an impressive win in the last start. Jockey Prashanth Debe had Constantine racing freely in front with Sea Lagoon in second position ahead of Flying Show and the rest. Rounding the final turn, Constantine came under pressure from Flying Show and began to drift out, in the process causing Flying Show also to go wide. Under a strong ride by jockey Sai Kumar, Flying Show got stronger close home and won by a shade less than a length at the finish. Sea Lagoon stayed on to take the third position though the five-year-old mare is yet to regain the form and consistency of last year. Script Writer was fourth.

Michael Eshwer trained Be Ready completed a hat-trick of wins when the progeny of Holy Roman Emperor easily accounted for the opposition in the 1200 metres Kapila Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 55. Be Ready had won during the last season and followed it up with an easy win in the early part of the season. Backed strongly to oblige, Be Ready fought out with Sky Jet before getting stronger with 100 metres left in the race. Albatross flashed on the scene late to grab the second spot ahead of Amorate. Jockey Prashant Dhebe was astride the winner.

Dhebe was in too much of hurry to win on Saturn in the 1200 metres Renowned Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Saturn chased the front-running Diva and came wide into the straight and took over the running at the top of the straight. Saturn burst clear but the fact that the filly had expended her energy in taking over the running told on her reserves as she slackened approaching the post. Star Style pounced on her with a strong effort and managed to get the nod in the closing strides of the race with ease. Favourite Jolfa did not face any serious challenge while winning the lower division of the race. The only hiccup that Jolfa faced was the fact that she did not get a clear run for a while in the straight before finding her way in the final furlong. Jolfa stormed clear and went away for an easy win over Golden Steps and Point.

Santosh Rao trained Accuracy finally found the winning form after 973 days when the seven-year-old gelding came up with a big burst of speed in the final furlong to measure the front-running Sancy who put up a determined effort in front but was found wanting in the final moments of the race. Beautiful Effect was third. Favourite Storm Ahead put up a tame performance.

Green Meadow toyed with the opposition in the 1400 metres Republican Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class and won in great style. Hitting the front from the word `go`, Green Meadow enjoyed the foray in front and extended the lead beyond the reach of the rest in the straight to win in style. Conundrum came up with a late bid to snatch the second berth from favourite Flaming Spear who was flat-footed. Favourite Micron Yaacow from the stables of trainer Ranjeet Shinde easily accomplished the task in the lower division of the race. With Sazaae San shifting out of a straight course, Manohar on Micron Yaacow had to change course and moved towards the rails. Micron Yaacow picked up speed with alacrity to get the better of the front-runner with a measure of comfort. La Piperi was third.

Ranjeet Shinde also saddled the winner of the day`s opener through The Imposter who swamped the opposition in the 1200 metres Alberretto Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Silvery Grey led deep into the straight but Imposter who was in about the third position moved up with raking strides and strode clear to win by a widening margin of four lengths. Amaris was third.
