Prevalent Force toys with the opposition

By: Tippu Sultan   August 15 , 2017

Darius Byramji trained Prevalent Force toyed with the opposition en route to an emphatic win in the 1400 metres K Mahipathi Rao Memorial Million, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Tuesday`s Hyderabad races. The progeny of Multidimensional proved that he is ready for the monsoon classics but he is bound to face far stiffer opposition than the one he encountered in this race.

Prevalent Force had come to Hyderabad on the back of an impressive win at Bangalore and the quality of that victory ensured that he would go the post at very cramped odds. This was justified because the local runners in the fray had proved to be decent handicap performers. Prince Caspian led from the start with Srinath settling Prevalent Force in about the third position. Finding the pace too slow and not wanting to cramp the horse, Srinath moved up on the outside and came alongside the pace-setter. With hardly any effort on his part, Prevalent Force bounced clear and won by a margin of over three lengths. That`s My Class finished third. Prevalent Force is expected to run in the Colts Championship where he will encounter the likes of Apache Sunrise and Moon Dancer.

Srinivas Reddy trained Prospero was expected to have it easy in the 1400 metres Independence Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 58 to 78. The favourite did not have it easy though. The filly hit the front and had the lead going into the final furlong. Jockey Umesh had to drive out the filly aggressively with the unexpected challenge emerging from Awesome Approach who finished with a good effort. Without Makeup was third. The lower division of the race saw the defeat of favourite Sea Castle who did not get the needed assistance from jockey Deepak Singh who compounded his problems by jostling with Like Wise and losing momentum. The last furlong saw equations change with last start winner That`s My Darling clinching the issue with the patented late burst of speed. Like Wise was third.

The 1400 metres Peddapalli Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 26, witnessed tight finish with fortunes changing till the winning post. Chinese Thought held off to win in a four-horse finish. The lead alternated continuously in the final furlong but what mattered, in the end, was that Chinese Thought had her head in front and prevailed by a whisker over Darakshan Setarah and Vijay`s Empire. Magical Skill showed up prominently going into the final furlong but weakened. On the evidence of this run, Magical Skill can be expected to get a better result next time out. The fancied Mountain of Light and Samba made no show.

Sequeira trained Ambitious Approach had the best credentials to win the 1200 metres B Marideswara Rao Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62 though the field was a competitive one. Amorous White led from the start but was quickly overhauled by Ambitious Approach who had moved up from the widest draw after entering the straight. Ambitious Approach went clear but in the end, was slowing down when Amorous White came up a second wind. The favourite held on to win by half a length. Dancing Leaf and Vallee Sceptre occupied the two spots. The first two placed horses have the ability to repeat. Amorous White perhaps can be experimented over a slightly longer trip with a change in strategy of settling him instead of going always on a start to finish mission.

Sequeira trained Proud N Arrogant showed a dramatic reversal of form after running more than 15 lengths behind in his last effort 17 days ago by slamming the opposition in the 1000 metres Machiavellianism Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. After chasing Divine Silver into the straight, Proud N Arrogant stormed clear to record an easy over stablemate Jasmine Garden. Cannon Dear was a head behind the runner-up. Anupam Sharma trained Sisco brought off the biggest upset of the day by winning the lower division of the race after seven unproductive runs. Molon Labe was second ahead of favourite San Vinto.

Leo D`Silva trained Princess Ballerina was well backed to win the 1100 metres Treasure Wind Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. The favourite justified the expectations, racing up with the field and going clear of the pack in the final furlong for an easy win over Cash For Rank who was bidding for a hat-trick. Apache Gal edged out Nelly for the third place. Vittal Deshmukh trained Perfection finally found the winning mark after 373 days in the lower division of the race when the five-year-old mare rallied strongly to nail the front-running Romantic Fire on the post. Racing Ikon was third.
