Isn’t She Lovely records splendid win

  November 9 , 2018

Padmanabhan trained Isn`t She Lovely showed amazing improvement when she outclassed the field in the 1400 metres Hampi Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Friday`s Bangalore races. The Mysore 1000 Guineas winner won the race in an excellent timing of one minute 23.5 seconds which was fractions short of the existing course record. Isn`t She Lovely is a stronger contender for the Indian 1000 Guineas if the connections campaign her in that prestigious race.

The wins recorded thus far by Isn`t She Lovely had indicated that she was more at home over longer trips but the win on Friday showed that the filly was capable of a tremendous turn of foot which should give her a decisive edge in whichever Guineas she is campaigned in. After Super Success led the field into the straight, Sandesh unleashed Isn`t She Lovely who immediately changed gears as it were and won pulling up. Big Heart put up a valiant performance to finish second ahead of Fire Glow. Big Heart reportedly succumbed to a heart attack after getting back to the stables.

The 1400 metres Royal Calcutta Turf Club Cup, a terms race for three-year-olds, had an intriguing look about it with three horses of equal calibre contesting. The bookmakers too reflected this sentiment by offering the same price for Saint Petersburg, Teodoro and Kerazano. Close to race time, Teodoro got stronger support to end up as a favourite. Zervan took Saint Petersburg on a start to finish mission and barely managed to pull it off by a nose from Teodoro. Kerazano who was taking his own time to warm up was boxed in as Teodoro moved alongside. Teodoro and Saint Petersburg fought out a thrilling battle with the latter prevailing in a breath-taking finish. Kerazano was eased up by the jockey once he was overhauled by Teodoro and was cramped for room and he finished a tame third. The timing of the race was slower by nearly two seconds to the one clocked by Isn`t She Lovely and it is difficult to see them progress as classic contenders.

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Lady Legend was an impressive winner of the 1200 metres Chickballapur Plate, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Lady Legend had recorded a hard-fought win over Wings of Desire during the summer season, but she did not show much improvement in her next effort at Hyderabad. Lady Legend was the firm favourite ahead of War Hero. The latter did the early running and even opened a useful lead in the stretch. However, Lady Legend showed class when she devoured ground in the final furlong and stormed clear to win in a smart time. War Hero was second ahead of Andhra King. Lady Legend has plenty of scope for improvement.

Despite finding the trip sharp, Arjun Mangalorkar trained Setaglow came up with a late rally to get the better of Erdemir close home in the Belgaum Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Erdemir led the field into the final furlong with favourite Ultimate Magic essaying a strong challenge. Even as these two were battling it out, Setaglow came up a strong run in the closing stages of the race to clinch the issue. Erdemir managed to nose out Ultimate Magic to keep the runner-up berth. The lower division of the race saw spirited betting on Pradeep Annaiah trained Deepalika whose odds came crashing down from 7 to1 to eventually close as a favourite at 3 to 1. Deepalika appeared a lost cause as she was at the back of the field while turning for home but covered enormous ground to nail lesser fancied Spirit of London in the final stride of the race. Jockey A R Pradeep was astride the winner. Wild Wild Angels was third while favourite Concept Win packed up after leading the field into the final furlong.

Kishan Thomas trained Revan Star came up with a tremendous burst of speed deep in the straight to clinch the 1400 metres Chintamani Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. The lesser fancied runner had the form to be considered as a strong contender for the race but surprisingly was offered at nourishing odds. As Good As It Gets made a late bit to occupy the second place ahead of Ultimate Power. Lawrence of Arabia who was the favourite performed poorly.

Neil Darashah trained Blue Moon justified the sustained support in the betting ring by winning the 1100 metres Antara Gange Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35 with a start to finish dash. Spanish Beauty gave a hot chase before settling for the second place. The latter will surely make amends next time out. Sun Power was faraway third.

Sirajuddin led in a winner through the well-backed Master of War who fought off a resolute battle with the front-running Bold Move in the stretch before asserting his supremacy in the final stages of the race in the 1100 metres Lalitmahal Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Nostradamus was putting in good work towards the close and was a suggestive third.
