Pradeep Chouhan contests HRC Claim

By: Our Correspondent   January 15 , 2014

Jockey Pradeep Chouhan has said that the claim of Hyderabad Race Club that the stay order with regard to his suspension has been vacated by the Hon`ble High Court is travesty of truth and preposterous.

In a Press Release, Chouhan has said: ``The Hyderabad Race Club had approached the Registry of the Hon`ble High Court on 13-01-2014 seeking to file a Petition for recall of interim orders passed in my favour on 9-1-2014 via a House Motion and the same was rejected. The Hyderabad Race Club then got permission to file the Petition for recall of interim orders before the vacation Judge and their Petition will now be listed on 17-01-2014. The Hon`ble High Court has only permitted them file the Petition and has not passed any orders on the Petition yet.

``It has come to my notice that the officials of the Hyderabad Race Club have been telling everyone that they have got the interim order recalled. The same is not true. Meanwhile, when I approached the Hyderabad Race Club on 13-01-2014 for taking part in a race I was denied permission to participate and I was given a letter by the Secretary of Hyderabad Race Club stating that their ``application for recall is pending and is sub-judice before the Hon`ble High Court” and that I have to “wait the decision of the Hon`ble High Court, which may be taken by the Hon`ble High Court on 17/01/2014. As such you will not be permitted to fulfill the riding engagements for the day.”

Chouhan has said even the letter issued by the club makes it clear that the Hon`ble High Court is yet to hear their Petition for recall of interim orders. In this context it is quite strange for the officials to spread rumors that the inter order has been recalled,`` Chouhan said.

It may be recalled that Chouhan was suspended for one year for getting off his mount Rosemonde soon after the horses jumped out of the gate with his legs off the stirrup leather. The jockey unsaddled the horse and returned to the weighing room in the club`s car. The Stewards who ordered an enquiry into the incident felt that the jockey had deliberately tampered with the equipment. They concluded that the reason for jockey`s legs not being in stirrups was because of surreptitiously meddling with it. Under such circumstances, the Stewards felt that it was a case of malpractice and decided to withdraw his license for one year. The Appeal Board of the club too did not give any relief to the jockey.

In the meanwhile, Chouhan approached the High Court and the court granted a stay of four weeks on the operation of the suspension. Because of the stay, Chouhan was declared to ride on two horses trained by Vittal Deshmukh and Srinivas Reddy. However, after dramatic developments on Monday, the club, acting on the advice of its counsel said that Chouhan had to wait for the court to take a decision possibly on Friday and till such time; he would not be allowed to ride.

Pradeep is an undisputed champion with a 1000 winners.... surely there is utmost integrity in the man else he would not have sustained to achieve records..... what happened that day is unfortunate and should be seen in that light... wish Pradeep the very best and hope better counsel prevails with the stewards
