Moon Dancer too good for field in Ranga Row Cup

  August 10 , 2017

Padmanabhan trained Moon Dancer proved his superiority in emphatic fashion in the 1400 metres Rajah S R K Ranga Row Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 45 to 65, the feature event of Thursday`s Bangalore races with aggressive running in front. The progeny of Excellent Art made light of the soft underfoot conditions and the wide outside draw by having the race sewn up long way from home.

Moon Dancer had won two races at Hyderabad and had come to the stables of Padmanabhan for summering. Moon Dancer had infection in the early part of the season and as such, his run in the Colts Championship was more an aberration. Moon Dancer was systematically prepared to bounce back to winning form before he returned to Hyderabad to his original trainer Satyanarayana. Justice Angel who had recorded a smashing win last time out was reckoned to be superior and hence backed spiritedly while Moon Dancer could run at lucrative odds.

Jockey Trevor Patel had no hesitation in taking Moon Dancer to the front from the wide outside draw and the three-year-old enjoyed his uncontested lead in front and looked a winner at the top of the straight itself. Moon Dancer quickened well and was assured of the race as Justice Angel was not making any head way and Gypsy was far too behind to threaten the front-runner. Moon Dancer won with a measure of comfort from Gypsy who edged out Justice Angel for the runner-up position. Moon Dancer who has shown tremendous improvement and looks a more settled horse, should maintain his winning form at Hyderabad.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Hot N Fire had gone down to Chemical Romance in her last outing and based on that fine effort, looked invincible in the 1100 metres Star Contender Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds despite running within a short span of time. Hot N Fire was quoted at very cramped odds and this was justified by the ease with which he collared the opposition to win by a widening margin of five lengths over Noah`s Ark and Malana.

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Implicit Trust prevailed by the skin of her teeth in the 2000 metres Santorini Star Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Trevor had the full sister to Hall of Famer leading from the start. One had expected Implicit Trust to have things her way but she was strongly challenged by Intrepid Warrior in the final furlong. The latter closed with a rush but failed by a whisker to overhaul the front-running favourite. What made the difference to the outcome was the better jockeyship of Trevor. Last start winner Brave Girl was a distance behind in third position.

The 1200 metres Mystic Memory Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50 had an open look about it as none of the runners looked outstanding. Talladega was surely a better class horse but she hadn`t raced for one year and her last effort was over mile and half where she had finished second best to Ice Glacier. Last start winner Duke of Norfolk looked capable of winning though the presence of inexperienced Nazeerul Alam was bound to make a difference as the four-year-old gelding is a free running horse in front and the apprentice could misjudge the pace at which he should go in front. Duke of Norfolk led by many lengths from the start and had the lead going into the final furlong. However, he could not sustain and was an easy prey to the horses marauding from the back. Areca Cruse perhaps enjoyed the underfoot condition as he showed an amazing improvement in form by whipping around the field at the final bend and storming clear in the final furlong in the hands of apprentice Anthony Raj. Tarini got the better of Duke of Norfolk to get the runner-up berth. Royal Serenity had gone down narrowly to Amazing Love in her last outing and looked capable of making amends in the lower division of the race. Apprentice jockey Darshan had Royal Serenity lead from the start and the fancied runner skipped clear beyond the reach of the rest to record an impressive win. Arizona stayed put in second position while Bazinga edged past Diamond Green to save place money.

Six-year-old mare Deepalika from the stables of trainer Pradeep Annaiah recorded an encore in the 1400 metres Basque Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category by getting the better of Extremelydangerous whose start to finish attempt came to grief close home. To compound the problems for apprentice jockey Chetan Gowda, Extremelydangerous drifted out alarmingly which also robbed her of a possible win. Emancipation was third while the fancied Appy`s Glamour failed to run up to expectations, his physical niggles affecting his chances in soft underfoot conditions.

Mistress of Spice who had finished nearly 10 lengths behind the winner in her last outing, showed reversal of form when winning the 1400 metres Set Alight Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35 leading from the start and comfortably winning from favourite Cantabria, returning rich dividends on the tote. Cantabria disappointed struggling to retain the second place from late rallying Masters Glory.
