Ravelnation justifies high hopes

By: Stay Thirsty   December 20 , 2017

Gregory Sandhu trained Ravelnation who was once struggling to make a mark in the lower class has been a revelation ever since the horse came to the present trainer and the progress of the progeny of Ravel has been swift. Ravelnation who went into the 1400 metres Bijapur Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races as a favourite, produced a strong gallop in the final furlong to get the better of Fair Game to land the spoils.

Ravelnation had been consistent figuring on board on each of the last five occasions. The five-year-old gelding was backed with conviction by the connections. Jockey Arshad Alam brought Ravelnation with a flourishing run with 200 metres left in the race. The timing of the challenge was perfect as the fancied runner overhauled the front-runner Fair Game in the nick of time and spared half a length at the finish. Shining Magic ran on to take the third place ahead of Korol who was literally flying at the finish. El Fenix too was not far behind. Commodore who was destined for greater glory was running after a longish break, a setback perhaps keeping him away from the track. He led the field into the straight before fading out.

Arshad Alam was also successful astride C V G K Kishore trained Class Above in the 1200 metres Elusive Pimpernel Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65. This trainer who seems to spend less time in Mysore was seen saddling a horse after a long time perhaps having taken leave of absence from the authorities. Class Above came home with a strong effort and seized the initiative inside the distance post and won sparing two lengths at the finish to Remember The Time who was prominent till being overtaken by the eventual winner. Matteo warmed up to the task rather late but was good enough to get the better of Dare Don, Be Ready and Queen for the runner-up berth in a tight finish. Longshot Kir Royale from trainer Pratap Kamath`s stable Kir Royale burst out of the pack with 200 metres left in the race and won the lower division of the race in great style. Veni Vidi Vici finished second best ahead of Swiss Pearl and Lucky Pineapple. Enthralling who did the front-running weakened in the final furlong and finished off the board.

Ganapathy trained Amber Brown who had the experience of having run in good company, found the opposition in the 1200 metres Shillong Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45, too meek for comfort as he came home with a big rush to win the race easily. Mayweather managed to keep the challenge of favourite Nagarjuna at bay to get the runner-up berth. Why Should I failed to save place money by a whisker. Sunil Samson who won on Amber Brown found himself on the winner in the lower division of the race as well. Celtic Mist, trained by Praveen Jesu, was well supported and the filly had no problem in asserting her supremacy after chasing New Era into the straight. Strong Conviction warmed up to the task when the cause had been lost. Birchwood was a close third ahead of Heaven And Earth.

Arshad Alam kept Time Always focussed to the task at hand and though he looked vulnerable and was headed at one stage by Cereza, the front-runner pulled back the initiative and won with something to spare over late-finishing favourite Bonito. Cereza drifted out under pressure which hurt her chances.

Bipin Salvi trained John Cabot proved too superior for the opposition in the 1600 metres Nagarjunasagar Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Ryan Marshall had an armchair ride to victory on John Cabot who toyed with the opposition and was so far ahead of the rest in the final furlong that the others in the fray could not even hope to chase his shadow. Sans Frontiers and Imitation Game occupied the next two slots a distance behind the winner.

Apprentice jockey Sunil Samson ended the day with a treble just like Arshad Alam. Samson was astride the winner in the concluding race of the day, the1600 metres Lalbagh Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Crescendo who once highly thought of had no problem in keeping his rivals at a safe distance while obliging expectations as a favourite. Momotaro nosed out Castle King to keep the runner-up berth.
