Dance Oh Dance scrapes home in the feature

By: Tippu Sultan   August 18 , 2018

Laxman Singh trained Dance Oh Dance scampered home in the 1200 metres Agostini Plate, a race for horses rated 58 to 78, the feature event of Saturday`s Hyderabad races. The lesser fancied runner went on a start to finish mission and held off the challenge of a host of horses to record an encore.

The race looked competitive as half a dozen horses had equal chance to pull it off. However, the betting trend did not indicate the closeness of the contest as Dream Girl was backed to oblige at cramped odds. Kuldeep Singh had Dance Oh Dance lead all the way and the leeway that the lesser fancied runner had helped in the end. Dream Girl made a spirited bid under Suraj Narredu but fell short. Fashion High, Royal Dynamite and Vallee Sceptre were all within striking reach of each other.

Donald Netto trained Titus was a lucky winner of the 1200 metres B Marideswara Rao Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Titus overhauled the front-running favourite Real Champ in the final furlong and sped towards the past. Exclusivenorthwind cut an erratic course when Akshay Kumar applied pressure to quicken. By the time he gathered the horse and brought him with a big burst of speed, Titus was in sight of the post. The front-runner held on to win by a fast diminishing margin of a head. Real Champ who weakened in the final furlong, was third.

Vittal Deshmukh trained King Maker was shaping to cause an upset in the 1400 metres Divine Dreams Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds but favourite Nimble Mind produced a powerful run down the final furlong to overhaul the front-runner in the waning yards of the race. Alta Vita edged out of Wings of Angels to get the third place. Sequeira trains the winner.

London Bridge rallied strongly in the closing stages of the race to get the better of Thundering in the 1600 metres Peddapalli Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Thundering who was racing keenly was restrained by apprentice jockey Praveen Gaddam who was unequal to the task. Thundering led deep into the straight before London Bridge under the forceful riding of Suraj Narredu gathered steam and got past the front-runner in the shadow of the post. Willow Glen necked out Vagisha to get the third place.

Lesser fancied Indian Dreams from trainer Satyanarayana`s stables won the 1400 metres Medak Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46 at the expense of a late-finishing Shivalik Arrow. Indian Dreams burst through the pack with a furlong left in the race and bounced clear. The lead established was critical to the outcome of the race as Shivalik Arrow found wings rather too late in the date. Favourite Valle Tiger was prominent till the final 300 metres but faded out without a fight. The lower division of the race was won by favourite Avantika who got the better of front-running Market Leader close home. Sher Afgan was third.

Prasad Raju trained Baywatch Babe looked spot on for the 1200 metres Machiavellianism Plate Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Baywatch Babe successfully accomplished a runway mission in the hands of jockey Sai Kumar. The favourite had a big lead over the rest right from the start and maintained it until the finish. Ispahan who was also well supported gave a chase but found the front-runner too good. Sindhu finished on well but missed the runner-up berth narrowly. Zoheb Shaikh trained Soul Empress charged home in the final furlong to get the nod in the lower division of the race. Crimson Fire had taken charge and appeared to be in a good position to land the spoils but the lesser fancied runner put paid to the hopes of the front-runner with a powerful dash. Yogastha and Running Fire finished in close order behind the runner-up.
