Peluche records another thrilling victory

  August 29 , 2018

Neil Darashah trained Peluche recorded yet another thrilling win when the three-year-old gelding held off the late rally of favourite Isn`t She Lovely to win the 1400 metres Srikantadatta Narasimharaajawadiyar Memorial Million 2018, the feature event of opening day`s races of the Mysore Regular Season on Wednesday.

Isn`t She Lovely who had run a close third in the Fillies Championship Stakes at Bangalore was expected to make progress and win the race which was the reason why she was the firm favourite. Into The Groove led the field followed by Isn`t She Lovely, Winning Heart, Orenda and Peluche who graced the rear. Rounding the final turn, Trevor Patel on Peluche found a nice gap between the pace-setter and the favourite and he pushed the horse to take the gap. Peluche had the speed to take the gap and at once established what turned out to be a winning lead. Isn`t She Lovely took time to warm up and by the time she came home with a big rush, Peluche was inching closer to the winning post. Peluche held on to win by a fast diminishing neck. Winning Heart ran on to finish third while Into the Groove weakened to end up fourth. Isn`t She Lovely appears to be a horse who would relish longer trips and she should be a force to reckon with in the 1000 Guineas after this forward effort. Peluche has been deceptively good!

Neil Devaney trained Sedulous recorded a remarkable win in the 1400 metres Sanctity Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Apprentice jockey Darshan eased Sedulous in the last position and during the running of the race, it was hard to believe that the lesser fancied runner would swamp the field in the end. Even as Bonfire and favourite Capricious were disputing the issue in the final furlong. Sedulous who travelled wide into the straight flew on the wide outside and swept past the front-runners to record a smashing win. Capricious held off Bonfire to get the runner-up berth. The former appears to have tapered off after three successive wins.

Trainer Neil Devaney has been getting his horses to perform with consistency and he was rewarded with a double. I`ve Got Clout who had figured on board in most of his runs, scored a comprehensive win in the 1200 metres K Shamaiah Gowda Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Jockey Imran Khan brought I`ve Got Clout into contention with a furlong left in the race on the wide outside and the strongly backed favourite flew home to have the race sewn up a long way from home. Abderus made a late dash to take the second position ahead of Florencia.

Gregory Sandhu trained Hajira had good credentials to win the 1200 metres Dupont Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 46 but was available at big odds as the drift in price in the ring confused many backers. King of the Wind had more supporters than the rest. In the hands of apprentice jockey Anthony Raj, Hajira produced a strong winning effort in the final furlong and won the race staving off the determined bids by Flat Out and War Hero. King of the Wind was well placed to strike but faltered in the final furlong to eventually finish off the frame. Favourite Set To Win was driven out by jockey Y S Srinath to record an easy win in the lower division of the race. Stunning Grey was in chase of the winner and shaped to get the second place but was beaten to the third place in the final stride by late flashing Aine whose flourish was eye-catching.

Darius Byramji trained Shamsadas Girl who had failed to live up to the billing during the Summer Season at Bangalore, found the opposition meek and won the 1400 metres Lt Col D K Mistry Memorial Plate, a race for lowest category horses, with a great deal of ease. Srinath had Shamsadas Girl take over the running in the final furlong and thereafter the race ceased to be a contest. The fight was only for the second place with Securing Smiles getting the second place in a tight finish from One of a Kind and Durer.

Prashanth Pawar trained Cactus Cash rallied strongly along the rails in the hands of jockey Umesh and managed to thwart the bid of Trevelyan close home in the 1200 metres Squanderer Plate, a race for horses rated 0 to 25. Trevelyan appeared to be gaining the upper hand in the final furlong but Cactus Cash put paid to his hopes steadily creeping up along the rails for a narrow win. Time Always was third.

Reckless made a valiant bid to win the 1400 metres Shettigeri Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45 but faltered in the final moments of the race. Scipio appeared to be the main danger as he was within striking reach of the front-runner but the race was bagged by Monnappa trained Sufficient Proof who produced a powerful burst to snatch the race in the waning yards of the race. Scipio finally necked out the long-time leader Reckless to get the runner-up berth.
