Arjun Anne trained Semper Fidelis put up a strong challenge to favourite Super Dart and emerged the better close home to win the 1400 metres Lingapur Cup, a race for horses rated 58 to 78, the feature event of Wednesday`s Hyderabad races. Jockey Akshay Kumar who wins more than a single race, however, had to be satisfied with the solitary success achieved on Semper Fidelis as his other fancied runners ran below expectations.
Top Link was backed to the exclusion of the rest though Semper Fidelis had the form to be a serious threat. Jockey Suraj Narredu had Super Dart dictate the proceedings and had a comfortable lead going into the final furlong. However, Semper Fidelis began to essay a strong challenge, closed the gap and engaged the favourite in a stiff duel for supremacy. Closer home, Semper Fidelis asserted her supremacy. Sea Castle was third.
Laxman Singh whose Super Dart lost in a close finish, however, led in the winner of 1200 metres Sunny Blossom Plate (Div II), a race for horses rated 42 to 62 through the strongly backed favourite Top Link. Long shot Apowerx shaped to cause an upset when she stayed on doggedly in front. However, a strong ride by Suraj ensured that the favourite got the better of the front-runner with a measure of comfort. Vancouver who lost some ground at the start, rallied well along the rails in the hands of apprentice R S Jodha and managed to save place money by nosing out Vallee Bloomer to take the third position.
Trainer Anant Vatsalya who had recently taken possession of Heaven Can Wait was successful in a winning race with the five-year-old mare who snatched the verdict in the closing moments of the race in the 1200 metres Adler Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Ispahan and Moon Walker were disputing the issue but thanks a good ride by five-kg claimer Afroz, the lesser fancied runner got the nod in the closing strides of the race. The heavily supported Khan Sahib, despite a strong ride by Akshay Kumar, was found wanting and finished off the frame though finishing in close order. Lesser fancied Take A Bow from the stables of trainer Satheesh won the lower division of the race. Apprentice jockey Jitendra Singh had Take A Bow chase Razor Wind into the final furlong before overhauling the front-runner. Take A Bow then skipped clear to win the race easily from late rallying Withrosemakeup and stablemate Ice Crystal.
Vittal Deshmukh trained King Maker was the medium of a quiet touch in the 1400 metres Coral Gables Cup, a race for horses race 42 to 62. On the last occasion, King Maker had come in for smart money, but the apprentice rider went too fast in the front and the fancied runner had no gas left in the final furlong. This time out, S S Tanwar was astride the horse and he dictated the pace cleverly and the lesser fancied runner had enough cushion to last out the trip when The Special One came home with a big rush. The punters, however, were at the receiving end as Golden Fortune who was the stablemate of King Maker was the strong favourite which led many to plump for the horse with a stronger jockey in the saddle.
Donald Netto trained Love Machine who had run twice in her career, however, was backed to the exclusion of the rest in the 1200 metres Hovercraft Plate, a race for horses rated up to 30. The market expectation was justified as Love Machine raced all alone in front and despite veering out of a straight course, was still good enough to win by a distance over Shivalik Stand and Rum Runner Run. The lower division of the race saw C V G K Kishore trained Trump Boy receive big support only to take the punters for a ride. The horse had the credentials and had Akshay Kumar in the saddle which was the additional factor why the horse was backed so strongly. Trump Boy faded out after leading the field into the straight. Dance At Night who was at the helm, was beaten to the second place by Southern Meteor who had his share of supporters and went to the post as a second favourite. Top Singer was third.
