Sandesh excels booting home four winners

By: Frankel   February 21 , 2019

Thursday`s Mumbai races were dominated by jockey Sandesh who was successful in booting home four winners in the card of seven events that were gone through on Thursday. Malesh Narredu trained Gallantry who had been subjected to strong preparation duly obliged in the 1200 metres A F S Talyarkhan Memorial Trophy, a race for maiden three-year-olds, the only cup event of the day, easily tackling the opposition.

Gallantry had the benefit of a mock race and going by the preparation, he appeared to be spot on to win the race. The strong support was not misplaced. Jockey Sandesh had Gallantry race a handy second behind Belenus before making his bid inside the final 300 metres. Gallantry swiftly covered the leeway and had the race sewn up a long way from home. Properly Posh came up with a spirited run but just about failed to get the better of Belenus for the runner-up berth.

Pesi Shroff trained Spitfire who was back in a handicap company after a failed attempt in the Guineas at Kolkata was preferred ahead of the rest to win the 1600 metres D W Reid Plate. Last start winner Flying Visit went on a start to finish mission and broke clear in the straight. Spitfire covered the leeway in a trice when Trevor got busy on the favourite and the progeny of Phoenix Tower stormed clear of the rest in the final furlong to win the race with a great deal of ease. Flying Visit managed to keep the second position ahead of the late-rallying Questionable.

The day`s opener was won by long shot Aberlour from the stables of trainer Altamash Ahmed. Sullivan who had more supporters than the rest raced a handy second behind Flammeus before taking charge early in the straight. However, his lead was short-lived as Strong Storm tackled the front-runner and shaped to win. The late flurry of Aberlour put paid to the hopes of Strong Storm who for the second time running had to be content with the runner-up position. Sullivan stayed on to take the third position. There was noticeable support for Weehawken who after being prominent at the top of the straight packed up when the race picked up steam.

Imtiaz Sait trained Benevolence had it easy in the 2000 metres Brave Hunter Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Sandesh had Benevolence in a handy position till entering the straight and the fancied runner smoothly accelerated to go clear to win the race with a measure of comfort. The fight if any was for the minor placings. Fanfare necked out Arrecife to get the second place. Savage Kingdom who lost some ground at the start ran on well in the straight but narrowly failed to save place money.

Antia had two horses capable of winning the race in the 1000 metres Red Buttons Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Untitled appeared to be the more favoured horse ahead of Slam Dunk who had the services of Zervan in the saddle. Untitled assumed command inside the final 350 metres and sped away from the rest to provide jockey Hanumanth Singh with an easy win. Adele ran on strongly from behind to take the second spot ahead of Slam Dunk.

Noshir Cama trained Transform came in for big support in the 1200 metres Blurr Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 4 to 30. Transform chased Angels Harmony in the stretch but found the front-runner too good for comfort. Angels Harmony spurted clear in the final furlong to provide jockey Sandesh his fourth winner of the day. Isinit came up with a spirited bid to take the second position ahead of Ebony while Transform weakened to finish fourth. The lower division of the race was won by Sandesh who drove out the lesser fancied Ame to a comfortable win over Wabi Sabi and the late-finishing Highland Wind who failed to get the runner-up berth by a whisker. Four horses finished in close order to dispute for minor placings.
