Ace Ace Ace swamps opposition in day`s feature

By: Tippu Sultan   August 11 , 2019

Hilton Sequeira trained Ace Ace Ace swamped the opposition in great style in the1400 metres Independence Plate, a race for horses rated 60 to 85, the highest rated race of Sunday`s Hyderabad races. Ace Ace Ace who had prevailed by a whisker on the last occasion showed vast improvement when winning in the hands of jockey Akshay Kumar in great Style.

Pentagon showed the way till turning for home and at this point, with Southern Legacy, shot into the lead but he could not sustain for long as Ace Ace Ace came up with menacing strides and took over the running inside the final 300 metres in effortless fashion and then sped away to win by a widening margin of five lengths. Starlight who was running without blinkers ran on to take the second position ahead of the fancied Be Sure who once again failed to live up to expectations of her supporters but managed to keep the third position by a whisker from Top Link.

The good forward run that Liberate had stood the Vittal Deshmukh trainee in good stead as the three-year-old filly led all the way and held off the late challenge of Midnight Dream to win the 1600 metres Stewards Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Apprentice jockey Afroz took the lesser fancied runner on a start to finish mission and Liberate had a useful lead going into the final furlong when Midnight Dream began to make his challenge. Though Liberate was faltering, the winning post came to the rescue of the front-runner who managed to prevail by a head. Favourite Nimble Mind warmed up too late to make a difference to the outcome.

Long shot Human Touch from the stables of trainer Sreekant brought off a big upset in the 1100 metres Rave Review Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Satheesh trained Composure who hadn`t seen the winning post for nearly two years was made the favourite. After Platinum Claasz led the field into the straight before Joy of Living took charge, Human Touch came up with a big burst of speed to sail clear despite running green. Joy of Giving was second ahead of the late finishing Vijays Empress. Composure was prominent up to the final bend before disappearing. The lower division of the race also was claimed by Sreekant`s another ward Proud Warrior who came in for one-sided support. Proud Warrior led from the start and shaped to win easily as he had a big lead going into the final furlong. Heaven Can Wait who took time to warm up finished with a rush even as the front-runner was faltering. However, the winning post came to the rescue of the favourite with Heaven Can Wait falling short narrowly. Apprentice jockey Rohit Kumar was astride the winners of both the divisions. Khan Sahib was third.

Laxman Singh trained Great Gatsby justified the sustained support in the betting ring with an effortless win in the lower division of the Nelson River Plate. Jockey Aashad Asbar had Great Gatsby take charge from the outside draw within the first furlong and the progeny of Speaking of Which expanded the lead to check in by a margin of over three lengths. Star of Tiara came from a long way back to edge out favourite Mahashakti to get the runner-up berth. Mahashakti was flat-footed when Great Gatsby quickened well at the top of the straight.

Srinivas Reddy trained Pontius Pilate who had let down expectations on the last occasion, was seen in true colours in the1200 metres B Marideswara Rao Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Marinetti who was running for the first time after being gelding with a longish absence from the track was backed to the exclusion of the rest but gave a flop chop running into traffic problems and then left with a hopeless task of covering up too much of leeway. The favourite was a disappointing third getting that position by a whisker from La Mer. Pontius Pilate who led aggressively in front had things in control and he stormed clear in the final furlong to win easily from Aon Aon Aon.

Anant Vatsalya trained Run Runner Run recorded the biggest upset of the day by winning the day`s last race, the Kohr Plate, a race for horses rated up to 25. Run Runner Run took over the running from Country`s Gift in the stretch and stormed ahead and opened a winnable lead. Royal Dancer warmed up to the task in the final furlong and came up with a big effort only to miss the berth by a narrow margin. Story Teller was a close third.
