Freedom Fire records an encore

By: Tippu Sultan   September 13 , 2019

Satyanarayana trained Freedom Fire recorded an encore showing good speed from the gates and enough resolution to win the 1400 metres Hyderabad Veterinary College Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45, the main event of a lacklustre card of six events that were programmed for Friday at Malakpet. Jockey Akshay Kumar had a rich haul booting home four winners in a row.

Freedom Fire had recorded a runaway win last time out and Moka who had finished more than 10 lengths behind the favourite had earlier in the day won impressively which flanked the form of the last start winner. Freedom Fire was quoted at a generous price with Avantika and Valee Tiger enjoying their share of supporters. Charlie Brown who had the services of Akshay Kumar also was backed in the hope that Akshay Kumar could extend his winning run to five. However, it was not to be as apprentice jockey Afroz Khan took Freedom Fire on a start to finish mission and had no problem in crossing the winning post comfortably ahead of late-rallying Avantika and Euro Zone. The former held off Euro Zone to get the runner-up berth.

Sreekant trained Brave Warrior was driven out for an easy win over favourite Sporting Smile in the 1600 metres Forest King Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Jo Malone had the lead going into the final furlong when Brave Warrior began to make a significant move from behind and in the process of taking over the lead, slightly hampered Sporting Smile who was boxed in. Brave Warrior quickened well and stretched away for a comfortable win. Sporting Smile could only nose out Jo Malone to get the runner-up berth.

Akshay Kumar managed to get favourite Premier Action to produce a good burst of speed after looking like hopeless cause in the 1400 metres Deccan Prince Plate, a race for three-year-olds. Born Greek shot into a big lead after overtaking Silver Set in the final furlong and had a useful lead when Premier Action began to make his bid on the wide outside. The leeway was covered in the nick of time and Premier Action could overhaul the front-running in the closing strides of the races sparing a length at the finish. Silver Set stayed on to take the third position.

Jockey Akshay Kumar completed a quick hat-trick when he guided Platinum Classz to get the better of long-time leader close home in the 1400 metres Hyderabad Veterinary College Cup (Div II), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Composure who hadn`t seen the winning post for 684 days was backed to break the winless sequence and jockey Nakhat Singh had the fancied runner well in front. Composure shaped to win when she had a good break in the final furlong. Platinum Classz who had several lengths to cover on the front-runner as she was at the rear at the final bend, did so under the forceful riding of Akshay Kumar and managed to pip Composure at the post. Joy of Giving was third. Actually who was widely expected to make amends for last start photo-finish loss did not race in earnest and finished poorly. Mir Faiyaz Ali Khan is the trainer of the winning horse who had won during the season 56 days ago.

Akshay Kumar extended his winning streak to four in a row when he weaved his way on Moka and guided the lesser fancied runner but a failed favourite to a facile win in the 1200 metres Mr Prospector Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 25. Country`s Gift led deep into the straight but in the final furlong was tackled by Invasion before both these runners were overwhelmed by Moka who had to work his way through a difficult passage. Once Moka got clear inside the final 100 metres, the four-year-old flew home to win by two lengths over Invasion. Moka`s last run had been the subject of an enquiry. Country`s Gift weakened to finish third while favourite Yogya was never in the hunt.

Anant Vatsalya continued to enjoy his good run in the races meant for the lowest category when Just Like That finished with a big effort to seal the issue inside the final 100 metres. Patron Saint and Victoria were disputing the issue when Just Like That flashed on the scene on the wide outside with a strong run. Ajeet Kumar was able to get the best out of the long shot who managed to edge past Patron Saint in the waning yards of the race to land the spoils.
