Paso Robles swamps opposition in feature

By: Tippu Sultan   November 10 , 2019

Leo D`Silva trained Paso Robles who has shown a tremendous improvement had no problem in swamping the opposition in the 1600 metres 1 EME Centre Rolling Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of a lacklustre card of six events that were gone through at Malakpet on Sunday. Havelock Cruise was an equally emphatic winner of the lower division of the race.

Though Great Gatsby had beaten Paso Robles when the two had met last time, the latter had made great progress in her runaway win next time out. And as such, Paso Robles was backed to the exclusion of her main rival. Great Gatsby went on a start to finish with Suraj Narredu on the favourite content to sit in about the fifth position till approaching the final turn. Paso Robles covered ground on the front runner with raking strides in the stretch and stormed clear in the final furlong to win by a widening margin of five lengths over Great Gatsby who held on to the second position. City of Wisdom nosed out Gusty Look to save place money.

Donald Netto trained Havelock Cruise led all the way and won the lower division of the EME Centre Rolling Trophy with a great deal of ease. Akshay Kumar pushed the second favourite to take over the running from the wide outside draw and the fancied runner enjoyed his foray in front and easily contained the challenge of Ruletheworld who was in the chase right from the beginning. NRI Heights came from a long away back to take the third position. Favourite No Compromise who was bidding for a hat-trick was under pressure to improve position from the back and in the straight, the favourite ran into a series of traffic problems which ensured that his chances were effectively shut off by the final furlong. The inexperience of Robbie Downey to the local conditions cost him the race as he is yet to get used the chaotic traffic that one must encounter on the local track.

Hilton Sequeira trained Reno Star had run an impressive second behind Vijay Singham and that effort ensured that the three-year-old son of Royal Gladiator went to the post for the 1200 metres Adolfito Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45 as the shortest-priced horse of the day. After Flaming Flame led deep into the straight, Reno Star warmed up to the task and managed to overhaul the front-runner in the final stages of the race to record a comfortable win. City of Blossom saved place money. The lower division of the race also went the way of Sequeira trained Soviet Pride who came from the last position in the final furlong to get the better of front running Giethorn to record an improbable win in the hands of jockey Kaushik. Monte Rei was third.

Faiyaz Ali Khan trained Semira won the opening race of the day, the 1200 metres Hidden Bloom Plate, a race for horses rated up to 25, at big odds. Semira took over the running in the stretch and bounced clear to win the race without facing any challenge. Fancied Snow Castle was a well-beaten second ahead of stablemates Royal Dancer and Withrosemakeup.

Lesser fancied Soul Empress from the stables of Sreekant finished on strongly in the hands of jockey Kiran Naidu to nail the front-running Loch Stella in the closing strides of the races to win the 1100 metres Recommender Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Favourite Man Apart showed promise when he moved with strong strides in the final furlong but failed to sustain the effort and weakened to become fifth. Long shot Southern Meteor nosed out Story Teller to save place money.
