Lightning Bolt asserts supremacy

By: Tippu Sultan   November 24 , 2019

Vittal Deshmukh`s classic hopeful Lightning Bolt recorded the second straight win when tackling the opposition effectively in the 1600 metres Artillery Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Sunday`s Hyderabad races. The progeny of Excellent Art was driven out to victory by David Allan who recorded his first win of the season after landing in India earlier last week.

Lightning Bolt made a winning appearance after a longish absence from the track. His last effort was running third behind War Hammer in the Colts Championship during the summer season. Lightning Bolt was backed to the exclusion of the rest. David Allan had Lightning Bolt settled in about the third position as Tetra Rama did the pacesetting. David Allan pushed Lightning Bolt along the opening along the rails on turning for home and the colt had the speed to shoot through. Lightning Bolt then kicked clear and had enough legs to win the race from Premier Action who held off Vijays Singham for the runner-up berth.

Suraj Narredu managed to score a solitary point when he guided Guiding Force to a narrow win over favourite Kesariya Balam in the 1600 metres Silver Dagger Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Shiloh led the field into the straight before Suraj brought Guiding Force from a handy fourth position to measure the front-runner. Guiding Force shot ahead inside the final furlong and gutsily held off a determined challenge from favourite Kesariya Balam. Shiloh stayed on to take the third position. The lower division of the race went the way of the well-backed Tiger of the Sea who came up with a rattle from the penultimate position at the final bend to sweep past the runaway leader Crimson Fire to record a handsome win. Brave Warrior ran on to snatch the runner-up berth from Crimson Fire who barely managed to save place money.

Donald Netto trained Waitoma rallied well to get the better of favourite Lifetime in the closing strides of the race to win the 1100 metres Cabaret Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. Lifetime had the first run on Waitoma who was boxed in along the rails. Kiran Naidu angled out Waitoma and the progeny of Eljohar responded well to the urgings and managed to overhaul the front-runner in the shadow of the post. Elegant Stroke ran on to finish third.

The fancied Green Turf was driven out to win the 1200 metres Dr S R Captain Memorial Cup (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45 by jockey apprentice jockey Vikrant. Air Salute shot ahead with a furlong left in the race with Green Turf in hot pursuit. Closer home, Green Turf managed to overwhelm the front-runner to post a comfortable win. Bar Et Law was third ahead of Augenstern who apart from being not good enough was also denied a clear run. Long shot from the stables of trainer Srinivas Reddy pulled off an upset win the Division II of the race. Jockey Naresh took Stepper on a start to finish mission and lasted out to win the race from late-rallying Story Teller who covered a lot of ground in the final furlong but failed narrowly. Mystery who chased Stepper all the way lost the runner-up berth in the final stride of the race. Waseem Ahmed trained Angel Tesoro finally broke the maiden`s rank in the 11th start with a runaway win in the Division III of the race. Angel Tesoro came from way off the pace to slam the opposition in the hands of jockey B R Kumar to win the race by a widening margin of six lengths. Buzz Light Year who led till overhauled by the eventual winner managed to nose out Flying Queen to keep the second position. Faisal Hassan trained Flag of Honour came into contention in the final furlong and sailed past the front-runner Red River and went away for an easy win. Favourite Maxwell ran on late to take the second position ahead of Promisehappiness who overcame a sluggish start and saved place money. Jockey B R Kumar on Royal Tiger had a fall on Royal Tiger.
