Watchmyscript exploits the pull in weights

  January 25 , 2020

Irfan Ghatala trained Watchmyscript bounced back to winning ways after a gap of 358 days by overwhelming the field in the 1600 metres Bangalore Racecourse 157th year Commemoration Trophy, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Saturday`s Bangalore races. Big Sur was not up to conceding five kgs weight to his adversary who in the past had been a prolific performer.

Watchmyscript was running for the first time during the season as he was withdrawn from the fray on an earlier occasion. The stablemate of Watchmyscript, Shesmyscript was the second favourite to on money favourite Big Sur while the first-named was available at big odds. Jockey Umesh took Shesmyscript on a start to finish mission contrary to the patented style of being held back and making a challenge in the stretch forcing Big Sur to be settled in the second position as he lacked the speed to do the customary front-running role. Shesmyscript held the lead deep in into the stretch before Big Sur shot ahead in the final furlong. However, Big Sur was found wanting when Watchmyscript was angled out inside the final 200 metres by jockey Irvan Singh and asked to produce a strong effort. Watchmyscript collared the favourite and stormed clear to win by a margin of three lengths. Sakura ran on late to edge out Shesmyscript to get the third position.

Prasanna Kumar trained Nisus who had run an eye-catching third to Rani Jindan trounced the field in the 1200 metres B N Gudiyappa Bangalore Winter Million, a terms race for three-year-olds. Anne Boleyn who had made a winning debut was the favourite ahead of Nisus who was expected to improve on his previous effort. Anne Boleyn went on a start to finish mission but was sorted out in the homestretch by Nisus who showed a remarkable turn of foot to assume command approaching the final furlong to eventually win by more than three lengths. Cavallini was second ahead of Anne Boleyn who was relegated to the third position. Classic Charm who had won a million about 10 days back at Chennai performed poorly and finished a dismal last.

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Cerise Noir found the winning mark after a longish break of 379 days by recording a facile win in the 1200 metres Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Commodus who had run a good forward run last time out was the favourite ahead of Cerise Noir and the rest. After the speedy Side Winder led the field and weakened, Kvasir and Air Command joined issue in the final furlong. Cerise Noir who was in the rear position at the final bend, flew home on the wide outside and went storming ahead of the battling duo of Kvasir and Air Command to land the spoils in the hands of jockey Akshay Kumar. Set To Win was a close fourth. Commodus who raced wide did not get going in the manner expected and was lost cause well before the race came to the boil. Mega Ikon reportedly burst his blood vessels while Air Command returned sore.

K P G Appu trained King of the Sand totally confounded the followers of form by winning the 1200 metres Parfait Amour Trophy (Div II), a race for horses rated 15 to 35 with a start to finish dash and in finished well ahead of late rallying favourite Desert Combat who could only nose out Super Gladiator to get the runner-up berth. For the record, King of the Sand had run 25 lengths behind the winner in his last effort. Desert Combat, who was the strong favourite, failed to take a favourable position from the innermost draw and fell to the last position effectively sealing his chances. Though he made progress by coming wide into the straight and rallying, the leeway conceded was too much to make up. The upper-division of the race was at the mercy of Prithviraj trained Skyfire who virtually had no opposition to take on after the withdrawal of Queen of Sands on veterinary grounds. Akshay Kumar had the short-priced horse track Kasauli into the straight before pushing the favourite to take charge. Skyfire bounced clear beyond the reach of the rest to win by a widening margin of four lengths over Debonair. Genuine Star was faraway third.

Trainer Prithviraj had a double for the day when Optimisticapproach, another short-priced horse from his stable duly obliged in the 1400 metres Sohna Trophy, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Long shot Princeazeem shot ahead inside the final 300 metres but could not sustain the lead to the post as favourite Optimisticapproach, under a strong ride by jockey Imran Khan, measured the front-runner in the shadow of the post. Morrane Gabriella saved place money.

Amazing Angel had often lost because of her tendency to warm up late and having to cover too much of leeway in the stretch. Amazing Angel had gone down by a narrow margin in her last run with a late dash but this time out she got her act together, covered plenty of leeway in the final furlong and managed to prevail over another late comer Dreams United to win by half a length the 1400 metres Raichur Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 35 as a strongly backed favourite. Azhar Ali trains the winner. Brown Bess was third several lengths behind. Rajesh Narredu trained Winning Force finally broke the ice when she came out of the maidens` rank as a five-year-old when she won the lower division of the race as a quietly fancied horse. The lower division of the race had an open look about it with King Creole being the favourite. Winning Force who had been subjected to systematic preparation with the help of a couple of mock races was spot on for the job as she hit the front from the word `go` and provided jockey Arshad Alam with an arm-chair ride. King Creole gave a chase in vain and had to be satisfied with the second position. Proudwish was third.
