Psychic Warrior wins in empathic fashion

  February 15 , 2020

Pradeep Annaiah trained Psychic Warrior who has found his bearings over a sprint recorded his second straight win easily accounting for the opposition in the 1200 metres Chatrapathi Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Saturday`s Bangalore races. The Progeny of Multidimensional out of Indian Derby-winning Psychic Flame has turned out to be a pure sprinter. Psychic Warrior`s first win in his formative years too had come over a sprint. This was six-year-old Psychic Warrior`s third win, two of them now coming on the trot.

The race had an open look about it, but it was surprising to see Prasanna Kumar trained Corona Del Corsa ending up as a strong favourite while the rest of the runners were all at lucrative odds. After Super Success led the field well into the straight, Psychic Warrior burst through the middle to assume command inside the final furlong to win in the hands of jockey Kiran Rai. Commodus threatened briefly before weakening to finish third. Set To Win made a late rally to grab the second spot. Kvasir failed to build on the promise of his last run while Corona Del Corsa was not spotted at the busy end.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Cavaliere has been finding one better on a consistent basis but this time out, in the 1400 metres F K Irani Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 30 to 50, he was expected to go one better and this sentiment was reflected in the betting ring. Cavaliere was backed to the exclusion of the rest with all others including winner Knotty Oak were available at lucrative odds. Knotty Oak who had run below expectations last time out was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey Anthony Raj and the lesser fancied runner skipped clear of Cavaliere in the final furlong to with more ease than anticipated. Princeazeem ran on to take the third position.

A good gamble was brought off on Satish Narredu trained Caesar`s Palace in the 1400 metres Royal Russian Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35 in the hands of jockey Saddam Hussain who rides a winner occasionally. With a surfeit of good jockeys in the family, it was clear that the declaration of Saddam Hussain to ride the horse made many believe that the horse would be out for yet another outing. But the flood of money betrayed the intentions as the odds on the favourite Chantelle drifted out with Caesars Palace becoming a strong second favourite. Saddam Hussain kept Caesars Palace a handy second behind Country`s Jewel before pressing the accelerator in the stretch. The fancied runner had enough ammunition to draw clear and win with a measure of comfort from Sun Splash. Chantelle could only finish a poor third.

Faraz Arshad trained Debonair had won in the early part of the season. His last run suggested that he was ready to strike yet again, and this was reflected in the confidence with which he was backed to win the 1100 metres Planetarium Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Jockey Imran Khan confidently took the speedy customer to the front and Debonair did not come under pressure from the others while winning with ease from the late rallying Flt Captain who showed remarkable improvement after having finished 20.3 lengths behind Sky Fire in his last outing. For the record, Debonair had finished 4.5 lengths behind Skyfire which was the reason for him getting big support in the betting ring. Super Gladiator who gave a chase to the favourite till the final furlong failed to sustain his momentum and eventually finished third.

Dheeraj trained Brown Bess bounced back to winning form after a gap of 372 days beating the opposition with a measure of comfort in the 1600 metres Melukote Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35 as a quietly fancied runner. Trevor switched Brown Bess to the rails as those in front shifted out and the progeny of Dean`s Kitten shot ahead in the final furlong to win by a margin of over three lengths. Favourite Smile of Joy necked out King Creole to get the runner-up berth.

The run benefit helped Arjun Mangalorkar trained Flamingo Road to put up an assertive performance in the 1200 metres Ardent Knight Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Flaming Road showed good improvement as she led from the start and easily held off Arlette who went to the post as a firm favourite. Jockey Y S Srinath was astride the winner. Sir Jersey who was making his debut ran on to take the third position.

Neil Devaney trained Hunters Moon recorded an encore in the 1100 metres Dandeli Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. The speedy customer led from the start and comfortably saw off the challenge of the heavily supported Apollo Bay who found the trip too sharp for comfort. By the time Apollo Bay warmed up to the task, Hunters Moon had gone beyond the reach and all that the favourite could achieve was edge past Air Force One to get the runner-up berth.
