Blue Moon annexes Manas Sarovar Trophy

  March 6 , 2020

Dheeraj trained Blue Moon lived up to the expectations of the last run, clinching the 1400 metres Manas Sarovar Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Friday`s Bangalore races with a late surge which saw the favourite neck out Set To Win and Attorney General in a three-horse finish.

Blue Moon had finished with a flourish to be an eye-catching second to Spanish Beauty on the last occasion over a sprint. On the basis of that effort, Blue Moon was strongly fancied to win with Set To Win, Commodus and Attorney General being considered seriously in the betting ring for the extended trip of seven furlongs. Jockey S John took Attorney General on a start to finish mission with Corona Del Corsa and Set To Win in proximity. Commodus was in the rear group with Blue Moon in the penultimate position giving a long lead to those in front. Attorney General kicked clear in the straight with Set To Win making a serious challenge while Imran Chisty on Blue Moon brought the favourite into contention on the wide outside. Blue Moon covered the leeway with menacing strides and managed to put her neck in front in the concluding stride of the race. Set To Win was second a neck ahead of the longtime leader Attorney General.

Neil Darashah trained Le Marc who has struck sublime form as a five-year-old recorded her third straight win when easily tackling the opposition in the 1600 metres Becket Plate, a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Trevor Patel relaxed Le Marc in the mid group as Astral Force showed the way. Inside the final furlong, Le Marc produced a strong effort to bounce clear and win from late-rallying Brooklyn Supreme. Incidentally, Le Marc was a maiden till she broke that rank earlier in the season. Astral Force who hasn`t won for 757 days weakened to finish third.

Neil had another well-backed winner through Adela in the 1400 metres Karwar Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Sir Piggot came in for support to the exclusion of the rest to end up as a firm favourite ahead of Adela. Sir Piggot who is yet to break the maiden`s ranks in 11 outings shaped to win when he got the measure of Lovely Sierra close home but his hopes were put paid by the late dash of Adela who after being outpaced in the stretch, produced a stunning rally to get the nod close home. Sharat Kumar trained Eco Friendly got his maiden win in the 17th attempt to beat the opposition comprehensively, grabbing the lead in the final furlong and winning by a margin of five lengths. Favourite Silent Kumar who was in the lead found the eventual winner too good to handle but succeeded in keeping the second position ahead of Shaktiman and Astron.

Prasanna Kumar trained Ansaldo made an impressive debut winning the 1200 metres March Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds with a powerful run from way off the pace to get the better of Perfect Perfecto by a neck. The latter did all the front-running and shaped to win before Ansaldo surprised everyone with his late dash. Favourite Excellent Queen failed to live up to expectations and was a tame third. She reportedly bled during the race.

The lesser fancied runner from trainer Arjun Mangalorkar`s yards, Winall broke the winless sequence of 237 days by easily collaring the opposition in the 1200 metres Dr K T B Menon Memorial Trophy (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50. Last start winner Debonair had to settle for the second spot ahead of favourite Sandarina. The lower division of the race was won by last start winner Up Front from the stables of trainer Irfan Ghatala. Up Front produced a strong effort in the final furlong in the hands of jockey Vaibhav to go storming clear and held off the late bid of Slice of Heaven. Favourite Port Of Beauty was a tame third.

Prasanna Kumar trained Fictioneer prevailed in a tight finish in the 1600 metres Icebreaker Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35. Fictioneer had the lead going into the final furlong but struggled to keep it as Chantelle and Custom Cut charged home with aggressive efforts. The winning post came to the rescue of the fancied Fictioneer who held on to win by a neck seeing off the challenge of Chantelle.

The last race of the day was won by a long shot Ispelldangertoall who won the 1200 metres Honnavar ate, a race for horses rated 15 to 35 against the run of expectations. The Samar Singh trainee Ispelldangertoall had run 29.8 lengths behind the field in his last outing after being off to a lethargic start. The seven-year-old beat off a strong challenge from the heavily backed Perfect King to win at long odds. Nerva who led from the start weakened in the final furlong to finish third.
