Court Jester posts decisive win

By: Goldie Boy   March 16 , 2021

Trainer Vijay Singh`s better prepared Court Jester (Hindu Singh-up) scored a decisive victory over Vikash Jaiswal`s speedy runner, Krishaa`s Choice (Akash Rajput) in the 1,100m Goodfellas Handicap, the main attraction in Tuesday`s card. Fitness was the key-factor in the afternoon`s seven-event frame – in view of horses being deprived of the competitive racing for nearly five weeks, because of the syces` unrest. Nevertheless, the two named trainers, in addition to another schooler, Aashay Doctor, scored full marks as they paraded their wards in the paddocks, and also raced on the track with some amount of confidence. However, Aashay cashed in on with a double while Vijay and Vikash, each of the two, had to remain satisfied with the solitary successes.

Although, there is hardly much to write home about Tuesday`s fare as the general level of performance, pertaining to all runners, is bound to go up in coming weeks but one admired Court Jester sticking to his known style of running that fetched him another victory, and it was a facile one this time. . The four-year-old allowed Krishaa`s Choice to dictate terms over the 7/4 favourite, Tasch (Dashrath Singh), but changed gears to overhaul the opposition inside the last furlong.

Equally facile was the victory of Aashay`s Shimmering Star, a chance ride for Neeraj Rawal who replaced an unavailable Pradeep Chauhan. The five-year-old also justified his brilliant form to make it three in-a-row, the first two coming after the season was flagged off late in November, last year. The five-year-old was held up behind the speedy Namak Halaal (Vinay Jaiswal) and Gaurish (app Hashib Alam) but treated the field with less regards inside the final 200 meters.

Early in the afternoon Aashay`s Ember Glow (Neeraj) had cashed in on her fitness while justifying the popular demands in the betting circles. The easy victory of the Strong Suit filly followed despite having to travel five-wide all through the journey, because of being drawn nine – the widest of all.

Vikash, though a firm believer of pushing his horses all the time, was somewhat lucky against Aashay`s firm favourite, Appreciate (Neeraj) in the 1,200m Gudarz Plate. Vikash`s Yuvi (Rajput) easily had the measure of the favourite, Appreciate, who burst a blood vessel about 100m from home after leading almost all the way from the start.

Javed`s pair of Bemuse (app P. Tajeshwar) and Zodiac Prince (Dashrath) fought out a keen battle but the former just about nosed out the stable-mate in the Zarashah Handicap while rest in the opposition struggled.

Trainer James McKeown, too, had a mixed fortune. However, his Sirona provided him and his apprentice P. Vikram the victory in the Diabolical Handicap.
The jockey-turned trainer Cristopher Alford tasted vagaries of the profession as the wrong one, rather a friendless runner from the stable, Eastern Crown (Afzal Khan) recorded a surprise victory while the stable`s 5/2 favourite, Portofspain failed to touch the board.
