Abhya Gama justifies odds

By: Goldie Boy   March 19 , 2021

Trainer Vijay Singh five-year-old horse, Abhya Gama (Hindu Singh) justified his 9/4 odds on his way to winning the 1,200m Mica Empress Cup, Friday`s feature event. Another one who did so was trainer Aashay Doctor`s filly, Delphini (C.S. Jodha), who treated her four rivals with absolute disregard while lifting the 1,400m Acorn Stakes, having earlier claimed another of baby-plum, the Alokananda Stakes, with an equal ease. Each of the two trainers finished the afternoon with a brace of wins in the six-event card jockey Hindu Singh scored a treble.

Abhya Gama, an easy winner over a mile, had also swept aside the opposition in an 1,100m sprint race when raced after a long rest. A near 10-week break had again put the youngest horse in the field of 10, in a similar situation and the victory was apparently on the cards. Paced early with the top-weighted Amorous White (Hasib Alam), jockey Hindu Singh sent the five-year-old into a two-length lead which proved enough for an easy victory. Aashay Doctor`s Perpetual Winning was best of the rest.

Dilphini`s task, in the 1,400m Acorn Stakes, became that much easier after her stable-mate, Blazing Belle (Neeraj Rawal), performed poorly. Blazing Belle was Ridden in check – a close last in the five-horse field – but the Ampere daughter performed listlessly, going backwards in the second-half of the journey. The 4/10 hot favourite, Delphini, on the other hand, came with an electrifying run 300m from home after being held back behind Lady Lauren (Akash Rajput), Euphrates (Nikhil Naidu) – the early leaders.

There was a lot of interest in the 1,400m Serendine Handicap, in view of the presence of Barack (Neeraj) taking on trainer Vijay Singh`s Silver Bracelet (Hindu) who had failed in the local Classics. Anyway, Barack called the shot but went down to the 14/10 fancied filly by a length who was always in chase but accelerated inside the last furlong to win.

Aashay`s filly, Intellection (Neeraj) responded strongly to the crafty rider`s handling and won the 1,400m Aboline Handicap. Ridden well off the pace, the Western Aristocrat daughter had the measure of Bharath Singh`s Tia Queen (app Sujit Paswan) who raced behind early leaders – Properly Posh (Muzammli Hashim), Right Move (Nikhil Naidu) and Script (R.S. Bhati).

Trainer James Mckeown`s deserve an applaud for mending Despacito (Hindu) and bringing the mare to the winning ways. The Letir Mor daughter scored a runaway victory 1,200m Robin Hood Handicap after her three failures during the part one of the season. The forced second brake has apparently done wonders and she may be counted upon to score again.

Trainer Daniel David`s Apna Time Aayega (Sameer Khan) continues to surprise when least expected. The Seven-year-old was another one who produced an electrifying run inside the last furlong to beat another rank-outsider, Sheer Force (app Tajeshwar), and a fancied Vijay Singh`s runner, Daring Heart (Hindu) in the 1,400m Up guards Handicap.
