In continuation of the process of upgrading that is taking place with great swiftness, the Sans Craintes Stud Farm in South India has imported a son of Storm Car, Lucifer Sam to stand at its stud farm. The stud farm also hosts Mathematician, Ajaad and Mudeer.

The well bred son of the celebrated Storm Cat, Lucifer Sam is a three-year old and he is one of the youngest horses to be imported as a stallion. Lucifer Sam is also half-brother to Admiralofthefeet (Danehill) who has been purchased by Dr Vijay Mallya as a stallion prospect for the Kunigal Stud Farm. With Admiralofthefeet suffering setback at Dubai during this year's Racing Carnival and thereafter not doing anything worthwhile on the race tracks, the son of Danehill is expected to arrive at the Kunigal Stud Farm in time for next year's breeding operations.

Importantly, Lucifer Sam’s dam is a full sister to the reputed European stallion Machiavellian and from the same family as Northern Dancer and Danehill.

Lucifer Sam won one race at two in 2007 and placed twice including finishing second in Tattersalls Millions Acomb Stakes, York, Gr 3. Lucifer Sam (Storm Cat –Rafina by Mr Prospector) was second to Fast Company in the Graded race and the latter had the distinction of enjoying a rating of 124 after just three starts. Another distinguishing performance of Lucifer Sam was running two lengths behind New Approach in his second start. New Approach was a champion two-year old in Europe and thereafter went on to win the coveted Gr 1 Epsom Derby.

While Storm Cat is a sire of sires, Lucifer Sam's dam Rafina is an own sister to Coupe De Genie, Ocean of Wisdom and Machiavellian. Rafina is also the dam of four winners including Admiralofthefeet (Danehill) who won three races at two and three including Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, Ascot, Gr 2 and Aktiv Capital UK Ltd Dee Stakes, Chester, Gr 3. The second dam Coup De Folie herself was winner of a Group 3 race and is the dam of seven individual winners including Machiavellian, Exit To No Where and other well performed horses.

The well bred three-year old Lucifer Sam is sure to give a qualitative boost to Sans Craintes Stud Farm especially since the stud farm is also strengthening its mare base in recent years. Mid Town (Danehill) was the best bred stallion to be imported by the stud farm but unfortunately, he had just one crop before he succumbed to colic. The first crop of Mid Town is on ground and they are due to race next year.

Bloodstock agent Gaurav Rampal of Scintilla Bloodstock was responsible for the purchase of Lucifer Sam whose career as a racing horse has been curtailed because he has been bought as a stallion for India. The stallion prospect has already completed his quarantine and has reached the stud farm at Coimbatore, traditionally known as the Cotton City of India. The stud farm is owned by noted industrialist S Pathy.

Lucifer Sam was trained by champion trainer A P O'Brien and trained at Ballydoyle for owners Mrs John Magnier (Coolmore Stud).
