Isn't She Special? Well, that was the question on everyone's mind after the Capt Jamshed Appoo owned and S. Padmanabhan trained filly won the first classic of the Mysore season, the Mysore 1000 Guineas (Gr 3) over a mile for horses 3-years-old only, the feature event of the races on Thursday.

Ironically, the race was postponed from last Thursday to this day due to heavy rains. The Guineas was eventually run in pouring rain and heavy underfoot conditions. It proved to be a blessing in disguise for the winning horse and the connections. But the manner of victory in testing conditions only proved that unless the ACE(IRE) - RAIN SPLASHER wasn't special, she might not have won. Another interesting part of the victory was her dam was Rain Splasher. As the rain splashed on the track, Isn't She Special was settled behind the field. Jockey Dasrath Singh did well to take the firmer ground six to seven wide for the best part of the trip after getting a lethargic start from the innermost draw.

It was the Ramaswamy duo of Light of Success and Flashing Colours who called the shots with the favourite Keukenhof (Suraj Narredu) racing a handy second in between the two. Keturah, Beauty Is Truth, Carisma, Tijuca Forest, Striking all raced in front of Isn't She Special. With the field looking for a firm footing and swinging wide, Dasrath made a very clever move and came in through the field in the middle of the course towards the railings.

As the leaders packed up, Striking loomed widest of all and looked all set to land the spoils. But Dasrath drove Isn't She Special ahead and the game filly quickened well to spare half a length at the wire to Striking with Keukenhof three lengths adrift in the third spot while Madame Bovary filled the frame.

With Cheval D'Or being withdrawn, Smokey Sid (John) was installed as the favourite. The LUCIFER SAM (USA) - LYOCEL progeny trained by Arjun Mangalorkar was off to a flier and made every post a winning one to win the supporting event, the RWITC Trophy, a 1100 metres trip for horses 3-years-old only. Flash Time was a far away second ahead of Standing Tall and Beautiful Fin. Smokey Bid had finished third to Turf Striker in his debut run and a setback had kept him off the track for a long time.

Quick enough (B. Sreekanth) owned by Ramaswamy and trained by Ganapathy, settled behind the speedy Virat from the No 11 draw in the F K Irani Memorial Trophy for horses rated 80 and above over 1400 metres. As heads turned for home Quick Enough was just that to take charge and draw away to win at 10 to 1 and over. Nickel Chrome and Demanding Format ended in the money while Gazaki was withdrawn.
In a blanket of rain and very poor visibility, Vertex (Irvan Singh) overcame adversity to track the speedy Blues And Royals and Maverical all the way till the final 300 metres before surging ahead to win exceptionally well under testing and terrible conditions. Maverical and Sanatana, the favourite ended behind in that order.

Earlier, the division two of the Jaganmohana Palace Plate over 1400 metres for horses rated 00 to 25 were won leading jockey Suraj Narredu astride Amit Caddy horses London eye and The Gentle Don with the other content to occupy minor positions. Of the beaten brigade, Immaculate did enough to recommend a following.

The weather and track conditions worsened after the sixth race and the Stewards of the Mysore Race Club decided to cancel last two races for the day saving themselves the trouble of coming to the paddock with their umbrellas unfolded.
