Satyanarayana trained Moondancer who is on the upgrade, recorded his third straight win when he accounted for the opposition in the 1200 metres Columbia Plate, a race for horses rated 74 and above, the feature event of Thursday’s Hyderabad races. The progeny of Moon Dancer who was seen on the track rather late in the season because of an infection, proved his superiority in convincing fashion with a start to finish dash, once again clocking a smart time of one minute 10.8 seconds.

Moondancer is blessed with tremendous turn of foot. His breeding indicates that he is bred to go longer. But since he has so much class, he has been excelling in sprints as well. Though he was running in this category for the first time against seasoned opponents, he was quoted at short odds because of the belief that he is yet to reach his handicap mark. Jockey Akshay Kumar who was astride the progeny of Excellent Art this time, pushed him to take over the running within the first furlong and Moondancer enjoyed his foray in front to eventually win by a margin of over two lengths. Ambitious Approach gave chase but found Moondancer too superior for comfort. Breezeofthesouth with a late dash occupied the third place. Chase Your Dreams ran below par when finishing dismally.

O Miss Akilah who has made different stables her place of stay, had been ambitiously campaigned in the classics but in the last two seasons, had performed poorly and had hit the board on only one occasions out of the 10 races that she had run in. Her track work suggested that she could break the winless sequence in the 1200 metres Charon Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. And she lived up to expectations with a powerful effort down the final furlong and got the Humaaghar close home to land the spoils to win after a long wait. Kireeti headed Scooby Dooby Do for the third place.

Arjun Anne trained Dancing Doll came in for spirited betting in the 1200 metre Polavaram Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds. The odds came down from a higher quote. Jockey B R Kumar had Dancing Doll lead from the start and the progeny of Net Whizz had a healthy lead which saw her finish comfortably ahead of Baywatch Babe and first-timer King Maker who was widely expected to make a winning debut. Vittal Deshmukh trained Symbolic Star won the lower division of the race at nourishing odds, getting stronger in the final furlong and overahuling Bombastic who held fort till that time. Nayadeep rallied late to get the better of Southern State to get the third place. The long-time leader Bombastic weakened to finish fourth. Favourite Handsome Duo was lost in the crowd.

Satheesh trained Euro Zone who has been consistently hitting the board and getting narrowly beaten in the final strides of the race once again met the same fate in the 1600 metres Sweet Girl Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Apprentice jockey Boppanna had Euro Zone lead from the start and had a good cushion going into the final furlong. Seven Eleven who came home with a ground saving effort along the rails, accelerated well in the final furlong and managed to surge ahead of the front-runner yet again in the closing moments of the race. Exclusive Symbol and Phenomenal Cruise were not far behind occupying the third and fourth places. Fancied Bayrd was slowly off from the gates and lost all chances.

Vittal Deshmukh’s Et Voici let down expectations for the umpteenth time. Stablemate Thundering attempted runaway tactics but closer home was caught up with by both Escobar and Limousine who occupied the first two slots. Thundering weakened to finish third while Et Voici gave no hopes and finished a miserable fourth.

Shezad Abbas trained Negress Princess was well backed to win the 1200 metres Try My Best Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. The favourite took over the running within the first furlong and was never headed. Though Delmonico threatened with a late charge, the front-runner had enough legs to go past the post comfortably ahead. Naamdhari was third. Despite being baulked for a clear run in the final furlong, jockey B R Kumar switched Sprint Legend to the outside of Time Is Luck and got the momentum going. Sprint Legend responded well and stormed clear in the shadow of the post to win with a measure of comfort from late rallying Wood Bridge. Time Is Luck weakened to finish third.
