Chuckit shows vast improvement to land spoils

By: Tippu Sultan   December 13 , 2021

Sreekant trained Chuckit built on the impressive second of his previous essay by swamping the opposition in the 1200 metres Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Tuesday`s Hyderabad races. Favourite House of Diamonds flopped miserably and looked a beaten cause well before the race came to the boil.

House of Diamonds was made a firm favourite though the race had an open look about it with the credentials of none of the contestants standing out. Chuckit had the form of having run an eye-catching second but the market forces were not too enthusiastic about his chances, resulting in the four-year-old colt running at long odds. Jockey Aneel who had Chuckit in a handy position, quickly made his move on turning for home. The progeny of Green Coast had the race sewn up a long way from home. House of Diamonds managed to pinch the runner-up berth from Blissful in a close finish. Tomorrows Dream who was the second favourite was not ideally positioned and though he finished on well, he failed to save place money by a whisker.

Laxman Singh trained Bandit King had the best credentials to win the 1600 metres Palampet Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. The flow of money was well directed. Jockey Mukesh Kumar who recorded a double during the course of the day`s action had Bandit King handily placed and the favourite quickly seized the initiative in the stretch to win with a measure of comfort. Cheltenham ran on late to get the second spot from Southern Act. The well-backed NRI Infinity from the stables of G Shashikanth readily justified the favouritism in the lower division of the race, storming into a decisive lead in the final furlong and won unchallenged. Jockey B R Kumar was astride the winner. Kimberley held off Silver Bells for the runner-up berth.

Last start winner Thunder Road was made the firm favourite in the Tribute Plate (Div III), a race for horses in the 20 to 45 category. However, Thunder Road did not show speed unlike on the last occasion and had a hopeless task thereafter. NRI Touch in the hands of jockey Akshay Kumar won the race untroubled by racing up with the field and skipping clear inside the final 200 metres. Indian Glory ran on to take second place ahead of Art In Motion while Thunder Road who let down huge expectations was a leisurely fourth. Sreekant trained City of Blessing was an easy winner of Division II of the race. City of Blessing was in receipt of one-sided betting and the favourite did not disappoint. Mukesh Kumar had City of Blessing in a handy third position before getting busy in the stretch. City of Blessing readily quickened when asked for an effort and won by a widening margin of three lengths. Hot Seat managed to edge out Executive Decision to take the runner-up berth.

The 1200 metres Nirmal Plate (Div II), a race for horses in the lowest category produced the biggest upset of the day. In an open looking race, Dream Jewel in the hands of apprentice jockey Rupal Singh, won against the run of expectations and was hailed a winner a long way from home. The fight if any was only for minor positions. Theo`s Choice took second place ahead of Sye Ra.
