Parisian maintains winning streak

  March 13 , 2022

Pesi Shroff trained Parisian who had recorded back-to-back wins at Kolkata made the best of an opposition whose best days are behind them by registering an easy win in the Gr 2 C N Wadia Gold Cup, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Sunday`s Mumbai races. Parisian has been a prolific winner, having won nine of his 12 starts.

Caprisca had been once a rousing performer but hasn`t won a race for 1099 days though he has been running regularly every other week and against the same opposition and earning his corn bill. Parisian was set to take on two jaded horses in Caprisca and Truly Epic and the task was bound to be an easy one notwithstanding the fact that Parisian could be tested in a truly run mile and a half trip. However, the pace was not gruelling as jockey Anthony Raj on Caprisca went on a start to finish and enjoyed a break of about seven to eight lengths well into the straight before Pradeep Chouhan got busy on Parisian. The favourite covered ground swiftly and had no problems in finishing a shade more than a length ahead of Caprisca. Truly Epic who had beaten Caprisca on the last occasion made no show and ended where he started.

Seven-year-old gelding Flying Visit had run an eye-catching fourth over a mile when Giant Star had the beating of Super Mile winner Cosmic Ray and the reproduction of that run was good enough to win the 1600 metres R N Kanga Trophy, a race for horses rated 80 and above. Anthony Raj kept Flying Visit in a handy position before driving out the fancied runner to take charge with a furlong to go in the race. Flying Visit bounced clear and had no problem checking ahead of Enid Blyton. Victorious Sermon was third.

The got-abroad filly Snowfall from the stables of trainer Altaf Hussain has been rated highly by the stable and after a forward run over a sprint, she towered over modest opposition in the 1400 metres Aldeburg Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. Jockey Akshay Kumar could relax the favourite in about the third position as long as he wished to before getting the favourite to unleash a blistering turn of foot. Snowfall easily overhauled those in front to win by a widening margin of five lengths over Malachite who overcame a poor start and a bad ride to snatch the second position ahead of Whatisinaname.

A M Jadhav trained Pure had finished in a heap when The Awakening had won the race. That run was good enough for the opposition he was taking on in the 1400 metres Azzurro Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Pure made a smooth forward run from about the third position and had the race in control when he easily overhauled the front-running Majorella Blue approaching the final furlong. The latter lost the runner-up berth in the penultimate stride of the race to Mystical Rose.

These days Karthik Ganapathy specializes in winning on long shots. The five-year-old mare Ladida won the 2000 metres Jayaramdas Patel Gold Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Ladida went on a start to finish and though she looked vulnerable when favourite Empower moved with raking strides at the final bend, the latter ran out of reserves. Ladida pulled away for a comfortable win over Jubilant Journey who pushed Empower to third place in the closing strides of the race.

Vinesh trained Nothing To Worry maintained the winning form when measuring the fancied runner Sky Fall in the final furlong of the 1200 metres Dr I C Nagree Trophy, a race for horses rated 40 to 66. Sky Fall led from the start but failed to sustain the lead and went down tamely. There was a lot of support for Baby Bazooka but the filly ran green and finished poorly. Jockey Bhawani Singh thus had a double for the day having ridden Ladida to victory earlier in the day.

Subhag Singh trained Speculator benefitted from the good forward run of last time when necking out Baku in the 1400 metres Flareon Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Jockey Zervan timed his challenge to a nicety to get the better of Baku. Anoushka was third. Candescent Star who came in for good support ran without hope.
