On the evidence of the impressive win recorded by Atlantus in his last outing, he stood out in the 1400 metres Udhagamandalam Cup, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of the day. However, the betting indicated punters preference in equal measure for Hill of Grace, Atlantus, Forever Mark and Undue. Hill of Grace shaped to win as she seized the lead in the final furlong but Atlantus gradually wore her down and emerged stronger in the shadow of the post. Undue ran on to be third ahead of Forever Mark.

The www.racingpulse.in website trophy was a keenly contested affair. Nermai was strongly fancied to win but there was quiet support for Look Alike to pull it off. Nermai led all the way but he did not draw from his nearest pursuer Look Alike and the fight went to the fire, with the former managing to neck out the favourite. Trainer Bipin Salvi, who saddled the winner, is another professional who has struck it rich this season.

The S N Harish Memorial Trophy which was held in memory of India’s finest race caller saw fortune fluctuate till Voice of India overhauled the field from behind to win from War Head who was not given a clear run. War Head had to be switched in from outside to get a clear passage and this perhaps went against him. Voice of India was the second of the three winners saddled by jockey Sharat Kumar, the other being the well backed Attaturk who got the measure of front running Time to Sparkle virtually in the closing strides of the race.

Sharat Kumar could have ended the day with a quadruple but Sandalwood Star was beaten by the strongly backed Supreme Arch who went into the lead in the final furlong and obliged in the hands of Sreekanth even as jockey John drove out the second favourite desperately to catch up.

Supreme Arch became the second leg of the double saddled by Lokanath. Dramatic Dancer, who had useful outings during the summer season, obviously appeared a cut above the rest in the 1100 metres Kurukshethra Plate and the volume of support he attracted in the betting ring was not exactly a surprise. Dramatic Dancer chased Smart Fresh into the straight and then sped away for an emphatic win.

Shot of Gold let down huge expectation by surrendering tamely in the Papanashini Plate (Div I). Storm Chaser, who received inspired support, led all the way and then broke clear in the final furlong to win from Allegro who edged out Shot of Gold for the runner up berth.

Jockey Appu drove out Prettyashyashswini to victory in the day’s opener. After tracking fancied High Fortune into the straight, Prettyashyashswini easily overhauled the front runner who disappeared without a trace and then held on capably to win from Son of Fortune.
