Punters continue to take a beating

Racing in Mysore has time and again proved to be a graveyard for punters as results often defy expectations. Just two favourites came through on Thursday on a day when horses appeared to sprout wings all of a sudden without any hint of a change in their performance graph. Trainer Md. Sajid whose horses rule the roost at nourishing odds had a good double through Expensive Affair and Swiss Chocolate. Since racing in Mysore caters to horses which have long seen their best years, form fluctuations are something that punters have to be wary of.

Alinski won the Tranquility Cup (Div I) for horses rated 60 and above quite easily. Alinski who was out for an airing last time out after a win in the same class earlier over a sprint bounced back to winning form over the extended trip of seven furlongs. Kept well off the pace Alinski was produced from the mid bunch in the last 300 meters from where he devoured ground without much effort to wrest the issue. Danger Diabolic, who missed the kick, came up well and assumed command but failed to stave off the spirited bid of Alinski. Danger Diabolic who was once a rousing performer seems to be steadily running into winning form.

Looking To Lead finally entered the winners enclosure after a couple of forward runs by winning the lower division of the Tranquility Cup. Theworldismine once again faltered to finish second best. Though well up in front, he drifted out under pressure and by the time he got into stride, the front running Looking To Lead had reached the safety of the winning post. Demanding showed some sparkle once again while finishing third.

Fire Brigade who shared favouritism with Hitz in the upper division of the Tuticorin Plate survived a scare to oblige. Fire Brigade who was well up with the pace was hard ridden and as he assumed command inside the final 100 metes Royal View came up with a late rally to threaten the frontrunner but Fire Brigade managed to pull it off.

Blood Stream was fancied the most in the lower division of the race for no apparent reason and she was not sighted. Expensive Affair found her galloping shoes after a poor run last time out. After bursting into lead from stall one, she held the advantage throughout with a useful lead which was expanded to four lengths at the finish. Al Qamar who tried to match strides miserably failed.

Nice Guy once again obliged albeit at nourishing odds in the higher class to score an encore. Nice Guy who held the advantage scored easily though Black Cat made valiant effort. Black Cat who was hampered for room initially lost position and this went against him in the end.

Witch Doctor who was the betting rage in the Yamuna Plate (Div I) failed to deliver goods as he took too long to warm up. Record Time shot through the middle in the shadow of the post to record a narrow win over the favourite.

Mutual Fund made it end to end with apprentice Praveen riding a neat race. Spark Of Zeal showed good improvement while finishing third.

In the day’s other action, Musical Signature kept the late rallying Activisto at bay to win comfortably. The favourite Mahseer was beaten well before the race came on the boil.
