It was a day when horses with no apparent form but only inspired support in the ring to support their claims which stole the limelight on Wednesday. It was a big day for jockey Mahendran who booted home four winners for trainers Bobby and Bipin Salvi who shared the honours with two winners each. The well backed horses sprouted wings as it were and won by such convincing fashion that it was difficult to believe that the same horses had shown no spark in their previous outings. Kar O Bar, High Tower, Toofan Mail and Tropical Flyer were the horses ridden by Mahendran who were successful in rising winning gallops.

The feature event of the races, the upper division of the BOL Publication Cup saw money coming in big volumes on Simply Amazing who eventually ended up as the favourite, with Time Is Life steadily loosing support. In the event Simply Amazing who raced in the fourth position from the start, zipped past the front runners in a trice once in the straight and skipped away to post a facile win. Simply Amazing had last won nearly two years ago and that time as the medium of a big touch. While Mr. Bureaucrat finished second a safe distance behind the winner, Time Is Life was seen struggling far away.
The lower division of the race was won by High Tower who again was slammed in the ring from a higher quote to 7/4 before the start of the race. Mahendran rode a confident race, keeping the favourite in the mid group before asking for an effort from the horse. The response was swift and devastating. High Tower trounced the opposition with plenty in hand. Pat On The Pack failed to match strides and finished second after being upfront for most part of the journey.
Cilantro was the only firm favourite to oblige in the day, but she had to be stretched out to win with challenge coming from Bee For You who was seen finishing with purpose towards the close while claiming the second spot. The handicap advantage helped Cilantro even though she was running in the higher class. Royal Hawk struggled to finish third.
The biggest upset of the day came from Charing Cross in the upper division of the Abide Plate. The surprising element was that Charing Cross, who moved up from the mid bunch inside the final two furlongs, literally came into contention all by himself and won unextended. Lot of money went down the drain on favourite Veda Priya who after being in the front struggled for pace and finished a tame second.
Vertical Limit who had struggled to finish second to Hurricane Spirit in her last run, made mincemeat of the opposition in the lower division, exploiting the handicap advantage obtained as a result of running in the higher class.
Another horse to decimate the opposition was Toofan Mail. The horse which had lost steam when finishing fourth to Magical Spirit with a tear away effort in front, was ridden in check in fourth position. Once the brakes were released in the homestretch, it became a no contest as Toofan Mail left the field for dead.
Kar O Bar duly obliged a quiet touch with an end to end victory in the Queen Of The Hills Plate. Opera Princess found foot only when Kar O Bar had the race in her safe keeping.
In the day’s opener, Tropical Flyer had an easy win with only Analika throwing a semblance of a fight.
