The Captain cooks up a smart coup
04-Nov-2017: Captain Cook, the top-rated sprint-specialist, chose to bounce back to form on his way to having a narrow measure of the Monsoon Derby winner, Sana, in the prestigious race, the 1,400m Hilliard Cup, the feature event on Saturday, the opening day of the winter season. Incidentally, both horses hailed from trainer Bharath Singh’s stable. Bharath’s other Classic hope, Gryffindor (C. Alford), also performed poorly in the Ming Dynasty Handicap, thanks to a fall during the saddling process.

Multitude wins feature on S. John’s day
11-Nov-2017: Form held true in most of Saturday’s race card, featuring the 1,400m Mayfowl Cup; which was claimed by trainer Vijay Singh’s 9/20 hot favourite, Multitude, who was simply brilliant in his winning effort. The afternoon also presented opportunities to the visiting jockeys --John and Dashrath Singh – to display their riding skills. John booted home four winners while Dashrath picked up three, in the afternoon`s eight-event card.

22-Nov-2017: Trainer Bharath Singh’s 4/1 shot, Noverro (Dashrath Singh-up) won a close battle with trainer James McKeown’s in-form horse, Invincible Prince (C. Alford) to claim the 1,200m RWITC Cup, Wednesday’s feature event. Bharath’s other fancied runners, however, proved big letdowns in the eight-event card; which also witnessed Christopher booting home three winners, including James’ Mahasuvi, and the Aashey Doctor-trained pair of Heliconia and Glorious Leaps.

Sana decimates opposition in the 1000 Guineas
25-Nov-2017: As expected Sana (Dashrath Singh-up) won the Calcutta 1000 Guineas, on Saturday. The Bharath Singh-trained filly, in fact, totally decimated the opposition to lift the coveted trophy from the Bangalore-challenger, Implicit Trust (Trevor Patel), by more than five lengths in a fairly fast run race. The afternoon was otherwise ruled by trainer Vijay Singh and jockeys S. John, and also Ashhad Asbar who reeled off a treble apiece.

Aggregated upstages Shaman in the 2000 Guineas
13-Dec-2017: Trainer Malesh Narredu’s charge, Aggregated (Christopher Alford-up) – a long shot in the nine-horse field – scored a decisive victory over the hot favourite, Shaman (Trevor Patel), to claim the 1,600m Aakriti Art Gallery Calcutta 1000 Guineas, the main attraction in Wednesday’s card. Multitude justifies odds while outsiders rule
13-Jan-2018: Multitude, once again, had an easy measure of the opposition. The Vijay Singh-trained prized galloper, claimed the 1,200m Calcutta Champions’ Sprint Trophy in the hands of jockey Dashrath Singh who guided the five-year-old in his preparatory run for the forth coming Sprinters’ Cup, early in the month of March. Kangra leads all the way to ‘Invitation’ victory
04-Mar-2018: Trainer Suleiman Attaollahi’s filly, Kangra (A. Sandesh-up), led all the way but fought a strong battle, nearing the finishing line, to neck-out Pesi Shroff’s charge, Temerity (Neeraj Rawal), in the 2,400m Indian Turf Invitation Cup, on Sunday. Kangra also broke the course record, polishing off nearly half-a-second, from Southern Empire’s efforts, 11 years ago. The course was fast, and the 1,600m record was also broken when trainer Malesh Narredu’s Whomakestherules (Suraj Narredu) easily beat the RCTC’s champion horse, Castlebridge (Trevor Patel), on his way to winning 1,600m the Maj P.K. Mehra Memorial Super Mile Cup.
