Usha Stud Farm in limelight with a double

By: Our Correspondent   October 25 , 2009

Srinath drove Autonomy to a splendid victory in the Indian Turf Invitation Cup (Grade 1) which highlighted the card of eight events framed for Sunday at Hyderabad. Apart from Srinath who had a good double in the day through Oasis Star and Autonomy, trainer Padmanabhan was in the limelight saddling four winners Becket, D`Artagnan, Dancing Dynamite and Leave It To Me. The other jockey who scored a double was Appu through D`Artagnan and Leave It To Me.

Indian Derby winner Antonios garnered the most support to lift the Indian Turf Invitation Cup on his good record at Pune. Ice Breaker was second in demand and Autonomy was quoted at nourishing odds.

Conceptual set the pace with Autonomy, Abs Fabs, Clever Ploy, Antonios and Ice Breaker following in that order as the 6 horse field set out for the 2400 meter trip. As the race progressed Autonomy was settled in third with Anonios more or less remaining in the same position in the penultimate position. As the horses entered the home stretch for the final run in, Kamlesh was quick to goad his mount and got his mount though the middle of the frontrunners and Antonios was quick to grab the lead. At this juncture Srinath who had Autonomy in check switched gears and Autonomy came up with a good stretch run on the wide outside and in a ding dong battle in the last 100 meters Autonomy just about got the measure of Antonios to win by a narrow margin. In the end it was Autonomy with Srintath`s driving force who traveled the better to wrest the race from the fancied runner. What was remarkable was that Srinath rode the final stages of the race without the support of the right stirrup as his leg had slipped out. Icebreaker who ran unsettled race right through, could only finish third.

The Poonawalla Stud Farms and Breeders Stayers Cup was virtually at the mercy of Yana. Travelling in the mid bunch Yana made her move around 1000 meterrs and gradually improved to take over the running inside the final 400 meters and once she put her best foot forward she brooked no opposition and she left the field cold trotting far behind. Angelique finished second distance behind with Cavradosi taking up the third spot. Noble Prince was out of contention even before the race came to a boil.

Oasis Star won the Sprinters Cup for the second time in a row in great style. C D Katrak trained Oasis Star who had won the event last year showed that she still maintains the same zest and currently the best sprinter in the country. Oasis Star who tracked Palazzio`s Sun all the way had the measure of the later who had assumed command in the home stretch and won without Srinath having to extend her much. Incidentally she set a new course record stopping the clock at One mimute 12.26 seconds. With Portrush not declared to start the others were outsprinted.

Dancing Dynamite who had found one better in Rhapsidion Snow on the last two previous occasions put it across the later in the Usha Stud Farm and Breeders Maj. P K Mehra Memorial Super Mile Cup easily. Dancing Dynamite showed good acceleration once alighted to the task in the home stretch and countered the front running Rhapsidion Snow first and the hard ridden Juventus in the end.

Padmanabhan trained D`artgnan won the Smt. Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Juvenile Million in an end to end mission without being headed by any of the runners at any stage of the race. Arts could only finish second ahead of Nox who failed to hold on to the second after being in that position all the way.

Despite running a bit erratic Leave It To Me won the last race showing good turn of foot when asked for to peg back Royal Invader. In the day`s other action Becket won the opener in great style without having to stretch a muscle.

I think all of u have aversion to jockey C.Rajendra. If today Dancing Dynamite won, its because of his skill and timing of the assault. He too scored a double, with Becket and Dancing Dynamite. My opinion about Becket: He is a difficult horse to ride, and he want to go away from the gates and i also found he has aversion to heavy noise. While led from paddock, as soon the people around made noise, he dropped C.Rajendra, then the rider has mounted again on the race track.
